My backstory for anyone interested - when I started supporting more density so more inner city neighbourhoods would be buzzy and interesting like Kings Cross - a detached house in middle Sydney was $350k.

Replying to @pfh007
Im an urbanist (aka yimby) but it has to be part of a coordinated approach of supply AND demand measures to result in housing affordability. I became interested in urbanism because I wanted lively neighbourhoods, not because I thought density alone would sufficiently reduce cost

If you choose to catch an intercity from a suburban station and it's delayed or cancelled but suburban services are running fine, you have no right to whinge, those trains aren't meant for you anyway.

In other countries, trains from different cities would not be picking up suburban passengers *at all* or for a hefty seperate fare.

The guy complaining was going to the airport. If the 14 minute different between and all stops and an express makes or breaks your airport travel plan, you are probably a moron that hasn't left anywhere near enough time

Sure, Working From Home may be good for the person doing it, but what about us other household members? Like yay now I have zero 'me time' to be home by myself.

This again for Palestine rally ft 40 minute bus delays... Surely there's a better way. Park St being bus only in the first place would be a start

Gridlock in the CBD due to road closures. Traffic made substantially worse by ubers and taxis dropping off/picking up in the CENTRE lane of roads, queueing across intersections, red light running. Its always a complete motorist free for all everytime theres any minor disruption

What does train reliability have in common with the housing crisis? When you think about it it’s kind of rich of us to expect reliable service when trains (especially intercity at night) are used as mobile boarding houses by many and the service interruptions that go with that

One unconscious vagrant can mean hours of delays with associated emergencies services, incl suburban trains

Metro single level open gangway design massively discourages this, and anti social behaviour generally - luckily

Again, overhearing Sydney Trains staff time being wasted by people whinging about delays… Is it any wonder service info communication is patchy if staff are preoccupied with nonsense? If they’re busy, let them do their thing ffs

I figured it was because I'm in a low hatch and literally everyone else has an SUV now... Not to mention how my visibility to traffic ahead is also compromised by SUVs. Why isn't this considered by ANCAP or whatever? Do they even care about safety outside the car?

isn't it great how basically everyone agrees that car headlights are way too bright now but nothing is done about it

How thick do you have to be try and board at the same train door as a wheelchair like it’s the only door available. And then make a scene when staff tell you to move carriages. Just pathetic stuff. And the train was delayed over it

Imagine how good it would be if the "I'm offended" brigade pivoted to point out failures of common sense and street smarts like this...

Tbh I know more young people like this than I know boomers with any investment properties. Be they train drivers, teachers, nurses. I know the stats don't say as such, but it sure ain't my family elders holding the wealth.

Could they have sent Metro West to Zetland for the $$ pissed away on reviews, delays and Rosehill drama?
Sydney Metro West has now been delayed for two years to 2032 for no reason and the next metro is yet to be announced.

Sydney Trains should probably ignore threats of/acts of self harm at this point. Run over them and move on, we can’t keep being held to ransom by these people

Second time catching a bus down Broadway in a week and the bus driver is not using the kerbside bus lane, probably because it’s too narrow for starters, and conflicting traffic movements… just a crap outcome for everyone… does no one check these things EVER?

Now my return bus is overcrowded badly because the last service was cancelled, which also happened last time (at a diff time). Worst luck with 440.

Oh that’s right, all of TfNSW boffins work from home almost permanently, so they probably do not see it
