Tirone David, a pioneer in modern cardiac surgery, joins us for a deep dive into one of the specialty’s most feared and technically demanding operations: the Commando procedure. Eduard Quintana also joins the conversation. They discuss topics like radical reconstruction for infective endocarditis, massive annular calcification, and the mindset required when “there is no other option”. 📣 The Residents' Corner paper on ‘Why should the current generation of surgical residents be academically active — lessons from the past’ is now live! This latest paper explores why academic engagement matters in cardiac surgery and why today’s residents must go beyond technical excellence to help shape the evidence that defines future practice. For the next generation of surgeons, being technically skilled is only part of the story; staying academically active, data-literate, and engaged in research is equally important. 📖 Read the full paper ⛓️‍💥 doi.org/10.1093/ejcts/ezag11…

📣 What do participating centres say about the EACTS Adult Cardiac Database (ACD)? Ospedale Sant’Andrea, one of Rome’s leading university hospitals, continues to strengthen its cardiovascular services and prepare for the launch of a new dedicated Heart Centre set to open in the coming year. The team sees participation in the EACTS ACD as an important step in supporting continuous improvement and future collaboration in cardiac surgery. Prof. Giovanni Melina, Director of the Cardiac Surgery Unit, says that joining the ACD gives valuable opportunities for self-assessment, quality improvement and future clinical research. It helps centres learn from their own data and contribute to a wider international community. The EACTS ACD provides participating centres with advanced benchmarking and data insights, helping surgical teams compare outcomes, identify areas for improvement, and continually strengthen patient care. 👉 Learn more about the EACTS ACD ⛓️‍💥 eacts.org/quality-improvemen… 👉 Register your hospital interest ⛓️‍💥 airtable.com/appRF0GOfjFh6Rt…
