implied ≠ fair (because of margin)
for sportsbooks, raw implied probability is just:
1 / odds
but books add margin (vig), so raw probabilities sum > 100%.
to get fair probabilities, we remove the vig:
fair_pᵢ = (1 / oddsᵢ) / Σⱼ(1 / oddsⱼ)
example (2-way): 1.65 vs 2.40
raw: 60.61% & 41.67% → sum 102.28% (vig 2.28%)
fair (normalized): 59.29% & 40.71%
we compare these fair bookmaker probabilities with Polymarket (crowd-set) - the gap is the edge.
