🚨 New paper! @ECAllen and I look at students' motivational beliefs across a semester of stats. We compared individual students fluctuations to the course averages. Takeaways: students rarely resemble the class average. More within-person studies needed!

Advice to academic folks on the job market: ask for more moving money. It’s stupid expensive to move cross-country and the quote they give you may be woefully inaccurate…😣 #AcademicChatter
New faculty question: What best practices do you follow as an advisor for grad students? Wondering about this from both a student support and lab productivity perspective. Bonus points for sharing resources - your own or otherwise! Thanks in advance!! @AERA_MotSIG@APADivision15

There is so much hidden curriculum in writing compelling conference proposals — grateful to @MotSIG_GSC for organizing and to be involved! Highly recommend attending if you’re planning to submit an #AERA25 proposal and have little or no experience doing so!
Anyone have any luck getting ahold of @Hertz regarding a booking? I cannot reach them by phone (the 1-800 # or the local counter) and am currently not getting a response on their IG business chat. Super frustrated. #badservice#customerservice

***New pre-print on predictors of cost perceptions***
There is still much we do not know about cost, including what factors contribute to cost beliefs. In this paper we examined a range of predictors to better understand these antecedents. (1/3)
osf.io/preprints/psyarxiv/z2…
We found that a number of antecedents served to reduce costs, including:
1.) Expectancy beliefs
2.) Domain identity beliefs (i.e. physics
identity)
3.) Belongingness
4.) Self-regulatory strategies
Students’ course load (# credit hours) was unrelated to subsequent costs.
We hope that this work will inform future studies and especially interventions aimed at reducing harmful cost perceptions.
Excited for this work to be out in the world! And really enjoyed my first collaborative effort with my amazing co-authors, @pnbeymer and @emilyqr!
