10/n A speaker from Tallinn outlined the political struggle to retain trolleybuses. Fortunately, trolleybus advocates have prevailed, and the system is being renovated and expanded. Bottom line: local research established that trolleybuses are about 30% more effective than BEBs.

Finally a π§΅on the Trolley:Motion trolleybus conference in Prague, The city is a flagship for the development of In Motion Charging trolleybuses. Notably, Prague is a capital city that revived trolleybus operation this year after a gap of 52 years.

Just attended the eBus:conference held by trolley:motion in Prague. Very well attended with a mix of trolleybus and battery bus delegates. Main themes were eBRT; trolleybus in a circular economy; planning an optimum trolleybus system. Prague is clearly the current flagship. 1/n

In a meeting with transit advocates @SFMTA_Muni's director of transit stated that they have not and will not conduct an independent technical analysis of the best way to electrify. Imagine implementing a $2B capital program on a whim!
This is a failure of planning and a thorough abdication of their duty to transit riders and the taxpayers who will foot the bill. If the @SFMTA_Muni Board won't do anything maybe the @sfcta can step in and hold their capital funds

Yesterday we learned that @SFMTA_Muni is full speed ahead on its Battery Electric Boondoggle despite evidence that leveraging the overhead line system to electrify the transit fleet is the cheaper, faster, and environmentally superior solution with the fewest operational impacts.

Plot shows how consistent construction jobs growth has been over the last 14 years. After the 2020 dip, the slope (rate of growth) of jobs growth is about the same as Jan2011-Jan2020. More construction data.

Interesting trolleybus news from Seattle. Kiepe Electric are fitting new batteries and chargers to the existing fleet of 170 trolleybuses dating from 2015 -17. The new equipment will treble the off-wire range. All manufactured in the USA. Photo: K P Canavan
