Great article. Qs: why do we exclude the automatic brain from the self? Are our experiences and environments not inherently part of who we “are?” Thought: at times, our aware mind can and does overrule our automatic brain - certainly this is another component of “free will.”
What is free will, if our brains launch our actions before we're aware of them? A different look at the question in @BBC @ScienceFocus. sciencefocus.com/the-human-b…

We don’t talk about it this way (yet), but could narcissism be yet another spectrum disorder? Further, will all mental illnesses eventually be considered on spectrums? #mentalhealth #narcissisticabuse #mentalillness

We must afford others the grace to make mistakes, grow, change, and do better than they have before. We too will make mistakes and need the space to grow; we then will hope for the same grace in return. #amwriting #personalgrowth

Laziness is not a trait. Laziness is a choice: the choice not to do the things you don’t really feel like doing. The more you choose to be lazy, the lazier you will be. The more you choose to do, the more you will do. #thoughtoftheday #amwriting #inspiration #doit

The test of integrity isn't how often you shift your stance. It’s why you change your mind. Revising your words to gain approval is flip-flopping. Rethinking your views based on new facts is learning. Integrity isn't fidelity to your beliefs. It's fidelity to seeking the truth.

It’s so much easier to just believe the loudest majority. I wish I could do that. Then I wouldn’t have to be worried about things like evidence, logic, or truth. Being loud and popular has zero relationship with being correct or true, unfortunately. #amwriting #truth

When you see things as burdens instead of gifts or opportunities, they will be burdens. When you forget to be grateful and savor precious moments, they will be lost. Life is a beautiful gift or it is a heavy burden, and it’s your choice. #amwriting #perspective #Wellbeing

You don’t have to be super “smart” to be generally competent. And many people who are “super smart” are actually not generally competent. Do you agree? #QOTD #amwriting #questiontime #smarts #competence

People mistake leadership with power and control. When it's really about the opposite, autonomy. If you are leading, your goal is to actually give away control. You want to guide and empower your team to not be dependent on you.

It’s sad that #wellness dialogues are now simultaneously telling people that their problems are almost all the fault of the prior generation, and yet that they are doing everything right as parents themselves, and that there is absolutely no right way to parent. #mentalhealth

My new WSJ piece, detailing how the unchecked DEI regime at universities is enforcing groupthink, excluding talent in favor of adherents, punishing dissent, and infringing on the diversity that should be at the heart of academia: diversity of thought. wsj.com/articles/diversity-t…

We can and should admire imperfect people who made mistakes on their road to greatness. Admiring only what we currently see as perfect means we lose all of those admirable qualities that come with nuance and darkness. We must accept both the light and the dark. #amwriting

It’s amazing what people without imaginations think solutions look like. “Ignore your most basic human instinct! Condemn yourself to a meaningless existence for the supposed sake of others’ futures!” We will solve this problem as we have others: with new ideas, not old ones.

When you tell people to stop procreating to save the environment, the conscientious people raise fewer kids, while the indifferent ones raise just as many as they always have, leading to a future dominated by the indifferent.
Lifetime academics are largely doomsayers because they don’t actually know how to DO anything effectively, just how to THINK about things. 1/ #phdchat #AcademicTwitter #AcademicChatter
