Are there any women in surgery Facebook groups for Australia where wisdom about surviving training & the logistics of life exists?

What will the repercussions for the health exec be? I predict crickets šŸ¦—, which will be more 'excusing' through actions after saying the easy words. It would be more remarkable if someone showed actual leadership and said- no. Not on my watch anymore āœ‹. #TheStandardWeWalkPast

Let me repeat this clearly: A doctor’s training is not ā€œsuperiorā€ to that of a Pharmacist or Nurse or Psychologist or Allied Health. It’s not a turf war. It’s not a competition. It’s not for substituting. Our training is different and together we work better.

What's interesting are the replies/QTs ignoring how consistent these results are with the larger body of literature, and instead attempting the equivalent of 'look over there!' <points in random direction> 🤣 Don't be distracted. This is why we need #DiversityAndInclusion. šŸ¤—ā¤ļø

#ArjBarker #MICF I spoke with @ellenmahoney_ who was at the Arj Barker show, this was what she had to say. The staff didn't seem to mind. But this was handled very poorly and I say unprofessionally

'We select on merit' It's not 'merit' when training is impossible for specific groups. Who, as it happens, are people living the same lives as populations we serve. 'The doctor doesn't understand what I'm going through'. Well, duh. We selected those with lived experience OUT.šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø
A junior doctor has been offered a training rotation that involves a job 70 miles away. They have 2 kids under 10 and spouse is about to have treatment for stage IV cancer. Apparently, they have to accept the job or leave specialty training? Who should they speak to about this?

Don't anyone DARE tell me we have equity or that women 'aren't resilient enough' when having 4 kids and surviving an abusive marriage while working out-of-town secondments still means you have no more than the same 6 years as everyone else to get specialty training done. šŸ˜ šŸ‘Ž

Day #5 without power and trying to look on the bright side of life- the fridge and freezer are sparkling clean and we have accidental white wine/champagne vinegar šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø. Not holding hope of power restoration today with ongoing storms though. #ClimateChange

Day #4 without power, a surprisingly tasty BBQ breakfast of ā€˜what’s left that won’t give us food poisoning’ (salami, tinned pineapple, cheese and toast), ambient temp 31°C and THISšŸ‘‡weather forecast… REALLY Queensland?! Haven’t you done enough already?! šŸ˜– #ClimateChange

My name is Kristin Song. On January 31, 2018, my son Ethan was shot in the head in his best friend's house. The father/gun owner stored 3 handguns and ammunition in a shoebox. Ethan's friend had been accessing the guns for over 6 months. At the hospital, the ER doctor slid down the wall, put his head in his hands, and whispered, "Your son is gone." At that instant, all I knew, loved and trusted was imploded into a million tiny pieces. I begged to say goodbye to my beautiful boy. I wanted to kiss his forehead, tell him how cherished he was, and tuck him in one last time. But the doctor begged me to remember Ethan as he was, you see, he was unrecognizable even to my eyes. The day before Thanksgiving in 2018, the prosecutor told me she would not charge the negligent gun owner, and if I wanted negligent gun owners to be held accountable, I would have to change the law. So I did. 6 months later, Connecticut passed Ethan's Law, which requires gun owners to secure their weapons if children can gain access. Then, I learned that so many states stood silent on this issue, so in 2019, I turned my attention to passing Ethan's Law nationally. I met with over 400 congressional offices, 130 of them Republican. In 2022, Ethan's Law was passed in the House of Representatives as part of the Safer Communities Act. Sadly, it was not picked up in the final package. When the Democrats lost the House of Representatives in 2023, I pivoted to passing safe gun storage laws in the States. As a result, Michigan, New Mexico, and Maryland passed safe storage laws. Currently, I am working with 5 states to pass Ethan's Law. I am emotionally and mentally exhausted, but I will not stop until there is a cultural shift in this country where it becomes second nature to secure your weapons around unsupervised children. If you believe in protecting children from gun violence, please follow and repost.

33 years ago tonight, 14 women went to bed thinking about their finals, future in STEM and the upcoming holiday season. They didn’t know that these dreams threatened a man’s sense of self worth and that they wouldn’t survive to see their goals and aspirations become a reality.

W T A F 🤯 On behalf of every teaching, nursing, early childhood educating, paramedical, medical, dental, and allied health student in NSW.
It's not fair to ask police trainees to study for four months without pay. So we're going to pay them.

Resonating strongly with this opening slide from Prof Richard Turner (general surgeon, Hobart) talking about the need to redefine resilience as the ability to speak up or change our environments, *not* the ability to absorb endless amounts of unacceptable behaviour. #RANZCOG23

Why can’t it be both sometimes? bariatric surgery combined with AOM for some patients? Neo-adjuvant or adjuvant type therapy? I don’t think the future is one or the other. Obviously, cost of AOM is a big issue for now.
