Aim at the sun and you may not reach it; but your arrow will fly far higher than if you had aimed at an object on a level with yourself.

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a chance to learn about the unique cultures, traditions, and experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. Now is a time to reflect on our history and build a future characterized by respect and reconciliation. #NIHM2026
ALT An image featuring intertwined illustrated symbols representing First Nations, Inuit and Métis: a feather, a narwhal and a fiddle, rendered in a flowing rainbow gradient. Surrounding these central symbols are decorative elements representing other aspects of First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures.
Today's Quote:
Man does not live by a turkey in every oven or a color TV set in every home. Man lives by faith and hope and love, by the star on the horizon, by the trumpet that will not call retreat.
- E. Merrill Root
When planting trees this Spring, be sure to keep power lines in mind. Your small sapling will one day become a large, beautiful tree. A tree that grows to 30 ft. at maturity should be planted at least 45 ft. away from power lines to help prevent future safety hazards or risk of power outages.

It is Indigenous History Month.
Throughout this month, I will be sharing the stories from Canada's Indigenous history.
Today it is Chief Crowfoot, one of the most important Indigenous leaders of the 19th century.
ALT Dark green National Indigenous History Month graphic with gold title text across the top and decorative line details. On the left is a black-and-white portrait of Chief Crowfoot seated in dark clothing, facing left. On the right is text about his leadership among the Siksika, signing Treaty 7, keeping his people from participating in the North-West Resistance, and criticizing failed treaty promises. A gold name banner at the bottom reads Chief Crowfoot (c. 1830 - 1890), with Canadian History Ehx maple leaf logos in the lower corners.
The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone else believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
June 1 marks the beginning of Pride Month — a time to recognize and celebrate the 2SLGBTQIA community, amplify diverse voices, and reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, equity, and belonging.
The City of Summerside is proud to support a community where everyone is welcome, valued, and respected. This month — and every month — we stand together in support of diversity and inclusion.
Let’s continue building a future that celebrates who we are, together. 🫶
