UPDATE ON INCIDENT: We can confirm that a substance found inside business premises in Baxter Gate is not believed to be hazardous. Cordons and road closures which were put in place to keep the public safe have since been lifted. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.

Between midnight & 7am on New Year's Day, we received 1,122 calls-a 16% increase compared to last year.
By the end of the day EMAS handled 4,084 calls - equivalent to one call every 21 seconds.
Demand remains high.
