The ENA mission is to advance excellence in emergency nursing. ENA's vision is to be the premier organization for the emergency nursing community worldwide.
Today is World Blood Donor Day, which honors the millions of people whose blood donations help save lives all over the world. These donors are critical to ensuring patients in need of transfusions have access to a reliable supply of safe blood in and beyond the emergency department.
This year, through its “One Drop of Humanity” campaign, the World Health Organization is working to drive sustained growth in regular, voluntary blood donations worldwide.
For those in the U.S., an easy way to make a blood donation appointment is through the American Red Cross: redcrossblood.org/give.html/…

"Pride Month is a celebration, but it is also a reminder that LGBTQ patients, nurses and other health care professionals are part of every emergency care team and every community we serve.
This year, Pride Month feels especially important. Many in the LGBTQ community, particularly transgender and gender-diverse individuals, continue to navigate a climate where access to affirming care, safety and expectations of privacy are under intense pressure. People often come to the emergency department when they are scared, vulnerable, hurt or alone, but studies have found a significant number of LGBTQ patients avoid or delay necessary care over concerns that they will not be accepted.
That is why it is as important as ever that the emergency department is an environment where patients and professionals alike feel seen and supported. As emergency nurses, our responsibility is to meet every person with clinical excellence, compassion, dignity and humanity while providing evidence-informed care. ENA remains steadfast in its commitment to train and educate emergency nurses on providing such care.
To each LGBTQ emergency nurse and ENA member: You belong here. Your voice and leadership matter. Your presence makes emergency nursing stronger."
— ENA President Dustin Bass | #ENATogether

As Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month concludes, ENA urges all to keep learning and celebrating the history and impact of the many cultures that compose Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. The following resources highlight a few incredible contributions from AANHPI nurses and communities:
- Read “Filipino Nurses: A Legacy Honored,” an interview with the filmmakers behind the award-winning documentary, “Nurse Unseen.” The feature-length documentary highlights the often unsung history of Filipino nurses in the U.S. aacn.org/nursing-excellence/…
- Learn about Turner Hospital, which was founded in 1915 when Mary Yone Akita, Los Angeles’ first Japanese nurse, turned her home into a maternity clinic for first-generation Japanese women. latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-…
- Watch how an outbreak of bubonic plague in San Francisco led to the founding of Chinese Hospital, which provided health care to the city’s underserved Chinese community. youtu.be/QsSz0ImaXO8?si=A4jh…#ENATogether

When a patient arrives in the emergency department showing signs of a stroke, emergency nurses know how to activate the team to start life-saving care and minimize damage, but the time before a patient even gets to the hospital is also critical.
