EU-Libya Demining in Action — Unexploded ordnance remains one of the most tragic legacies of conflict, threatening the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of civilians in urban and rural areas across Libya.
Through the Rapid Response Pillar of its Foreign Policy Instrument, the European Union is
#Libya’s largest partner in mine action and stockpile management.
Working in close coordination with national and local authorities, including LibMAC, the
#EU has supported the clearance and destruction of hundreds of thousands of mines and explosive remnants of war, strengthened the capacity of Libyan demining teams, and provided equipment and risk-awareness education to communities affected by this scourge.
Together with representatives of the Ministry of Defence, I attended today a controlled demolition of explosive devices carried out by our implementing partner, the Libyan civil society organization 3F. I commended the role of the Turkish armed forces team who plays an outstanding role managing the explosions.
The European Union stands alongside Libya and its people as a reliable, committed partner in this vital effort to make communities safer, return land to productive use, and create the conditions for greater stability, prosperity, and development for all.
