📣 Russia’s war on Ukraine #6 Higher oil prices may give Russia short term relief,but they can’t fix deeper economic strain,widening deficits,high rates,closed businesses,labour shortages &rising taxes. With 20 EU sanctions packages in force,the cost of the war keeps rising.

Productive introductory meeting with H.E. Mohammed Ben Ghalbon, Minister of State for Prime Minister and Cabinet Affairs, in Tripoli today. We reviewed the expanding #EU–#Libya partnership and explored opportunities to further strengthen our mutually beneficial cooperation across a wide range of sectors. I reaffirmed the European Union’s full respect for Libya’s sovereign right to manage migration in an effective, humane and orderly manner, in accordance with Libyan laws and international standards. I commended the Government’s new mechanism for facilitating the return of migrants to their countries of origin in coordination with their embassies. The EU is stepping up its support to increase returns, assist the Government’s humanitarian response, and enhance the management of Libya’s land and maritime borders. The recently inaugurated Forward Operating Base at Wadi Bey stands as a tangible demonstration of the EU’s commitment to supporting Libya’s military and law enforcement efforts to combat human smuggling along the main desert migration routes. Likewise, the new Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre planned by Operation @EUNAVFOR_MED IRINI in Benghazi will strengthen life-saving operations at sea and the fight against smuggling networks, while improving coordination across the country.

برعاية كريمة من معالي السيد عبد السلام الزوبي، وكيل وزارة الدفاع، تشرفت اليوم بالانضمام إلى الكتيبة 603 التابعة للجيش الليبي في افتتاح قاعدة العمليات الأمامية الممولة من الاتحاد الأوروبي في وادي بي. تُعد القاعدة الواقعة عند مدخل فزان عنصراً أساسياً في الجهد العسكري المشترك بين الشرق والغرب لدعم اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار ومكافحة الإرهاب وتهريب البشر، وذلك بالتنسيق العملياتي مع القوات المسلحة العربية الليبية. وقد أُعجبتُ كثيراً بكفاءة الجنود الليبيين وصمودهم في هذه الظروف الصعبة. يُنفّذ هذا المشروع من خلال برنامج EULINK/روابط التابع لأداة السياسة الخارجية للاتحاد الأوروبي، ويعكس التزام الاتحاد الأوروبي الراسخ بدعم جهود ليبيا في توفير الأمن في أراضيها الشاسعة والنائية، بما يعود بالنفع على ليبيا والمنطقة ككل، بروح التعاون والوحدة الوطنية والمسؤولية المشتركة.

Under the appreciated patronage of H.E. Abdulsalam Al Zoubi, Undersecretary of Defence, today I had the honour to join the Libyan Army’s 603 Brigade for the inauguration of the #EU-funded Forward Operating Base at Wadi Bey. The base located at the gateway of the Fezzan is a key component of the joint east-west military effort to uphold the ceasefire agreement and combat terrorism and human smuggling, in operational coordination with the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. I was deeply impressed by the professionalism and resilience of the Libyan soldiers serving in this challenging environment. Implemented through the European Union’s Foreign Policy Instrument programme EULINK/Rawabet, this project reflects the EU’s proud commitment to supporting #Libya’s efforts to provide security in its vast and remote territory for the benefit of Libya and the wider region, in a spirit of cooperation, national unity and shared responsibility.

رحبتُ بفرصة اللقاء في مصراتة مع رئيس البلدية محمود السقوطري وممثلي المجلس البلدي لمدينة مصراتة تبادلنا وجهات النظر حول كيفية دعم الاتحاد الأوروبي لبعثة الأمم المتحدة للدعم في #ليبيا @UNSMILibya في دفع العملية السياسية قُدماً، واتفقنا على أهمية ضمان تمثيل وجهة نظر مصراتة ودورها بشكل كامل في مسار الانتخابات الوطنية والمصالحة والوحدة. كما بحثنا سبل تعزيز تعاوننا، بما في ذلك دعم المجتمع المدني النابض بالحياة في مصراتة، ومبادرات تمكين رواد الأعمال الشباب، وفرص التعاون مع منطقة مصراتة الحرة لتعزيز النمو الاقتصادي وخلق فرص العمل.

EU-Libya Demining in Action — Unexploded ordnance remains one of the most tragic legacies of conflict, threatening the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of civilians in urban and rural areas across Libya. Through the Rapid Response Pillar of its Foreign Policy Instrument, the European Union is #Libya’s largest partner in mine action and stockpile management. Working in close coordination with national and local authorities, including LibMAC, the #EU has supported the clearance and destruction of hundreds of thousands of mines and explosive remnants of war, strengthened the capacity of Libyan demining teams, and provided equipment and risk-awareness education to communities affected by this scourge. Together with representatives of the Ministry of Defence, I attended today a controlled demolition of explosive devices carried out by our implementing partner, the Libyan civil society organization 3F. I commended the role of the Turkish armed forces team who plays an outstanding role managing the explosions. The European Union stands alongside Libya and its people as a reliable, committed partner in this vital effort to make communities safer, return land to productive use, and create the conditions for greater stability, prosperity, and development for all. 🔗 Info and awareness: 3f.ly/

جهود الاتحاد الأوروبي وليبيا لإزالة الألغام على أرض الواقع – تعدّ الذخائر غير المنفجرة إحدى أكثر الموروثات المأساوية للنزاعات، تُهدد حياة وسبل عيش مئات الآلاف من المدنيين في المناطق الحضرية والريفية في مختلف أنحاء ليبيا. ومن خلال ركيزة الاستجابة السريعة التابعة لأداة السياسة الخارجية، يُعدّ الاتحادالأوروبي أكبر شريك #لليبيا في مجال مكافحة الألغام وإدارة مخزونات الذخائر. وبالتعاون الوثيق مع السلطات الوطنية والمحلية، بما في ذلك المركز الليبي للأعمال المتعلقة بالألغام ومخالفات الحروب (LibMAC)، دعم #الاتحاد_الأوروبي عمليات إزالة وتدمير مئات الآلاف من الألغام ومخلفات الحرب القابلة للانفجار، وعزّز قدرات فرق إزالة الألغام الليبية، كما قام بتقديم المعدات اللازمة وبرامج التوعية بمخاطر الألغام للمجتمعات المتضررة من هذه الآفة. وبرفقة ممثلين عن وزارة الدفاع، حضرتُ اليوم عملية للتخلص من أجهزة متفجرة نفّذها شريكنا المنفذ منظمة المجتمع المدني الليبية 3F. وقد أثنيت على دور فريق القوات المسلحة التركية الذي لعب دوراً بارزاً في إدارة الانفجارات. يقف الاتحاد الأوروبي إلى جانب ليبيا وشعبها كشريك موثوق وملتزم في هذا الجهد الحيوي الرامي إلى جعل المجتمعات أكثر أماناً، وإعادة الأراضي إلى الاستخدام المنتج، وتهيئة الظروف لتحقيق المزيد من الاستقرار والازدهار والتنمية للجميع. 🔗 معلومات وتوعية 3f.ly/

Welcomed the opportunity to meet in Misrata with Mayor Mahmoud Squtri and representatives of the Municipal Council. We exchanged views on how the European Union can support @UNSMILibya ⁠in advancing the political process and agreed on the importance of ensuring that Misrata’s perspectives and role are fully reflected in the path towards national elections, reconciliation, and unity. We also explored ways to deepen our cooperation, including support for Misrata’s vibrant civil society, initiatives to empower young entrepreneurs, and opportunities for engagement with the Misrata Free Zone to foster economic growth and job creation.

On June 7, while carrying out monitoring and surveillance activities in #Med #HighSeas, Op. #IRINI 🇪🇺 conducted a flag verification boarding of EU-sanctioned MV SANDHYA in compliance with Art. 110 of #UNCLOS 🇺🇳 #IRINI continues to support EU efforts to counter #RussianShadowFleet

The European Union shares with #Libya the objective of building strong, unified and professional armed forces capable of ensuring security for all citizens, safeguarding stability against internal and external threats, and effectively controlling land and maritime borders in full compliance with international standards and human rights. During a productive meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, General Salaheddin Al Namroush, we reviewed the progress achieved through our partnership and explored new avenues for deeper cooperation. I commended the successful conduct of the AFRICOM-led Flintlock 2026 exercise, highlighting the important contribution of #EU Member States and the spirit of genuine partnership that underpinned the initiative. I also encouraged continued efforts towards nationwide military coordination and unification. We discussed the significant potential for further engagement with Operation @EUNAVFOR_MED IRINI, particularly in the areas of training, capacity-building and the provision of critical capabilities in support of Libya’s maritime institutions.

يعتمد مستقبل ليبيا البيئي على القرارات الملموسة التي تُتخذ اليوم: الطاقة المستدامة، والقدرة على مواجهة المخاطر المرتبطة بالمياه، وحماية النظم البيئية، وخفض الانبعاثات. وفي #يوم_البيئة_العالمي، يفخر الاتحاد الأوروبي بدعم شركائه الليبيين في تحويل طموحهم المناخي إلى إجراءات ملموسه.
