Quebec sets new electric vehicle targets. 🇨🇦 They are now aiming to have 80 per cent of new vehicle sales be zero-emission by 2035. Environment Minister Pascale Déry says “the new target of 80 per cent continues to encourage electric vehicle sales while also giving a break to automakers.” They are facing challenges supplying competitive EVs. The province has also set a new target for 2026, with a goal of having 26 per cent new vehicle sales be electric by the end of the year. The return of federal EV incentives, and a limited supply of Chinese electric vehicles should help. BC also has a target 26% ZEV by 2026, then 75% by 2035. These are solid objectives, I wish other Canadian provinces would step up with some clear targets. The better electric vehicles aren’t just zero emission, and very inexpensive to fuel, they are also fully software defined vehicles, just like your Apple and android cell phones. They can provide advanced safety features that reduce your chance of being in an accident up to seven times. Some have supervised full self driving, that takes you door-to-door very safely without you ever having to touch the pedals or the steering wheel. Quite an amazing breakthrough in technology, that’s now well proven, and approved in many countries around the world. More auto makers plan to offer this feature going forward.
