Was reading an article in Texas Highways magazine about ‘Tubing the Guadalupe River’ and of course my brain decided to jump in the ole Time Machine and take a stroll down memory lane!! Pretty much every Sunday from Memorial Day through the end of summer you’d find me, Milo, Dan (my training partners) and anyone else that wanted to go with us “Floating the River” We’d meet at the gym, load up and head to the bad ass little historic town of Gruene that sits on the Guadalupe River It’s Texas so the first stop while rolling down I-35 was Whataburger before hitting HEB for beer and ice. No beer sales till after noon on Sundays in Texas and we were never in a hurry We’d roll into Rockn’ R timing it so the rush of folks had already gone on their way. We’d rent our tubes (pay the couple bucks extra for a tube with a bottom because it hurts when your ass hits a rock down the rapids) and of course a tubes for the beer coolers and jump in the cold ass water!! Doesn’t matter how hot it was outside the river was always balls shriveling cold We hooked our feet on the beer cooler tubes and refuse to paddle just letting the current take us down the river and for a few hours nothing else in the world mattered except drinking beer and enjoying ourselves while relaxing (and acting like children 😂) After the Float we would eat like kings at the Gristmill restaurant and end our day at Gruene Hall (the oldest dancehall in Texas) for a few more beers and some Texas Country Music. Always seemed like a longer ride home than there, making damn sure you were driving perfectly as you cruised down I-35 through the speed traps of Selma and Schertz on the way back to San Antonio. Great now I’m hungry for @Whataburger 🍔… #powersportstrengthconditioning #oldstrongguysrule

It seems like there are so many people posting stories on here but the ones @josiahjdp writes are so captivating that you find yourself “all in” waiting for the next installment, he writes them in 2-3 parts and I guarantee you’ll be hanging on waiting for the next part of the story!! His are simply the damn best!!!!
I flew 12 exhausting hours with our little girl in my arms to surprise my husband on our anniversary. Instead, I walked in on the one thing I never saw coming...

This shit from fans harassing or putting hands on others because of who the cheer for or what shirt they’re wearing is ridiculous!!! Anyone that does this shit is pathetic Since this is a rematch of the 1999 NBA Championships and I was there as the Spurs assistant strength coach, I’ll tell you something… For Game 3 there weren’t enough seats behind the bench so I had to stand with other Spurs staff on the mezzanine level, of course everyone but me is wearing a suit and tie, I’m wearing khaki shorts and a white shirt that says “San Antonio Spurs Strength and Conditioning” and the folks seated nearby are dogging the hell outta me…. giving me all kinds of shit BUT not once did anyone say anything “out of bounds” not once did anyone try to fight me, after we got our asses beat my boss and I walked back to the Four Seasons Hotel, stopped in a pizza place for a couple of slices Same treatment as in MSG …we got some good natured shit from folks on our walk but that was it!!! We were in NYC for a bit, played Games 3,4,&5 out there and had a great time interacting with Knicks fans Even walking back to the hotel after winning the NBA Championship the Knicks fans were cool towards Brungy and myself
Putting your hands on someone because they’re wearing the wrong jersey is PATHETIC. Social media has captured multiple incidents of Spurs fans, including some who traveled from San Antonio, being harassed and attacked by Knicks fans following Game 3. Most Knicks fans are passionate and respectful, but the behavior shown in some of these videos is completely unacceptable. Be better, New York. #PorVida #GoSpursGo

The past few days I’ve been looking on my bookshelf for something a little different to read and with the Spurs in the NBA Finals and as I battle my emotions with the ominous 11th anniversary of my ‘rebirth’ when this book given to me by Rev Buckner Fanning just called out to me. If you knew Rev Fanning from Trinity Baptist Church then you understand that it couldn’t have been titled any better!! He was a cool old dude that I’d see at this small Starbucks across the parking lot from an old HEB off N. New Braunfels, he’d tell his wife Martha that he had to use the restroom and he’d ‘sneak’ over and get a coffee. (he swore she never knew!! Haha, when I’d see them at Spurs games she’d tell me thanks for keeping him occupied, yeah sure sir she never knew 😉😂) Saw him at a game my first season with the Spurs and he mentioned he’d seen me at Starbucks, said next time he was there he’d come sit with me!!! Told him I welcomed it!!! We had amazing conversations always about the Spurs (he was a huge fan) and then about life, honestly I sure could use one of those conversations right about now. #powersportstrengthconditioning #oldstrongguysrule

When I was moving to this area for work, I made sure NOT to live in Ft Walton Beach because of this incident and another that showed a pattern of horribly trained police officers.
Deputy thinks an Acorn hitting the roof of his car is gunfire so he unloaded his firearm at his own car that had an unarmed suspect inside. This is next level incompetence. The incident took place in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Deputies from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a man named Marquis Jackson. Jackson’s girlfriend had called the police, accusing him of stealing her car and sending her threatening text messages. Deputies located Jackson, detained him, handcuffed him behind his back, and placed him in the backseat of a standard patrol vehicle for questioning. Deputy Jesse Hernandez, a trainee at the time, was walking back toward the patrol vehicle where Jackson was being held. As he approached the passenger side of the car, a small acorn fell from an overhead tree and struck the roof of the vehicle. Because of the metallic thud it made on the roof, Deputy Hernandez misidentified the sound as a muffled gunshot from inside the vehicle. What followed was a massive cascade of panic: Hernandez immediately fell to the ground, rolled, and began screaming, "Shots fired! Shots fired! I'm hit! I'm hit!" Believing he had been shot in the torso and that Jackson was actively firing at him through the car windows, Hernandez drew his weapon and fired multiple rounds into the patrol car. Hearing her partner’s screams and weapon fire, Sergeant Beth Roberts—who was also on the scene—assumed they were under fire. She drew her weapon and also opened fire on the vehicle. In total, the two officers fired more than 20 rounds into the patrol car. Despite the patrol car being riddled with bullets and shattered glass, Marquis Jackson was completely uninjured. Because he was handcuffed, he could only lean away and press himself as low as possible into the floorboard/seat crack of the vehicle to avoid the gunfire. Deputy Hernandez was also not injured. After the dust settled, medical staff confirmed he had not been shot; his belief that he was hit was likely a psychological reaction to intense panic (often referred to as a phantom injury). The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office conducted an extensive internal investigation into the shooting. The investigation concluded that Deputy Hernandez’s use of force was not objectively reasonable. While Hernandez genuinely believed he was under threat, the investigation found no evidence of any weapon on Jackson, nor any reasonable justification for mistaking an acorn for a gunshot. Sergeant Roberts' use of force was found to be legally justified under the "fellow officer rule," as she was reacting to what she reasonably believed was her partner being shot. Deputy Hernandez resigned from the sheriff's office during the investigation, effectively ending his career in law enforcement. Sheriff Eric Aden publicly released the bodycam footage and issued a formal apology to Marquis Jackson and the community, stating that the department failed in its duty to protect a suspect in their custody. Ultimately, Jackson was cleared of any wrongdoing regarding the shooting, and the event remains a textbook example used in law enforcement training regarding hyper-vigilance and the dangers of misinterpreting sensory input during high-stress situations.

And yet another entry into my book tentatively titled “What in the fu$k was I thinking!?” Was hitting a kettlebell circuit to warm up when that damn alien in my head started chirping away and challenges me to do RLE Split Squat but HEY let’s go ahead and superset it with some ‘Old School’ Straight Leg Deadlift standing a on box and reaching out in front of the feet then to make it worse a 5 sec eccentric on both exercises!!! 6x6 was an ass kicker so why not finish with 6x40m Farmers Walk!! If you need me I’ll be laying on the ground in my gym contemplating my life’s choices with a HUGE SMILE on my face!! What was it ‘don’t feed the goonies after midnight’? Well it should be “Don’t Leave Ed in the Gym Unattended” 💪 #powersportstrengthconditioning #oldstrongguysrule

Brungy and me celebrating and about to drink a lot of beer!!! Spurs v Knicks - locker room celebration after the SPURS won in 5 games to become 1999 NBA Champions We came in healthy and strong having only dropped 1 game to the Timberwolves in the first round then we swept BOTH the Lakers and then the Trailblazers on our way to win the Western Conference Championship!!! The Knicks came to town and we won both Games 1 and 2 in the Alamodome which was ROCKING!!! It was so loud in there and so exciting to be a part of sitting behind the bench!! I can still remember on my drive into downtown in my Jeep (no doors or top) and people recognizing me!! They’d pull up next to me cheering and hitting the horn as we drove down 281!! Then you’d get near the Alamodome and you’d see huge signs hanging from buildings GO SPURS GO!! Everyone in San Antonio felt part of the team and they were!! Stay tuned because next I’ll share Games 3,4, & 5 out in NYC and some of the wild shit that could only happen to me!!! #powersportstrengthconditioning #oldstrongguysrule #spurs

Mike is one of the absolute best coaches I’ve ever worked with, at the Spurs I was responsible for several of the bench / reserve players, they did skill work and on court conditioning with Mike, he’d play one-on-one with them all while coaching them at the same time. I’d be out there watching and he’d always have some good advice for me to make sure their strength training was spot on for that player. He’s a basketball genius and I’m happy as hell for him
34 seasons in NBA Fired twice by Cleveland Fired by Lakers with 1-4 record Takes assistant role 6 seasons Wins Coach of Year again And then he's fired again Barely gets Knicks job Falls behind 1st round Calling for his head But now Finally It's Mike Brown's time

The other day a good friend of mine and I were talking about our Faith. I told him how I believe God has protected me from some of the stupid ass stuff I’ve done, now I’m talking about stupid shit where one small mistake and you’re messed up pretty bad or dead or maybe in jail 😉😂 One day I was up in Houston visiting my daughter, she was probably 3-4 years old and we went through a Drive Thru Safari. What in God’s Name possessed me to think it was a good idea to get out of my truck and pet a damn Bison but the next thing I know there I am with a handful of food pellets and I’m scratching his head and feeding him by hand like he’s a puppy not a damn 2500 pound animal with horns and an enormous head that even impressed me (and that’s something with my giant ass head!!) and could kill me!! Wish I could say that story was an anomaly of my dancing with my stupidity but…. #powersportstrengthconditioning #oldstrongguysrule #3xlstout

Always enjoy starting a new training journal. I have a couple motivational quotes/trinkets but this one is meaningful to me, yeah … sure … why?! 2nd place, plenty of folks would be celebrating but I was angry and embarrassed at myself. I can close my eyes and remember each and every warm up and attempt on the platform, I remember that nothing felt right that day, I was completely out of sync, I could make excuses that I had to walk away from a girl I really liked (funny it’s the same one that recently tried to destroy me) or that I was busting my ass waiting tables at Dicks Last Resort till 2am or that I was going to UTSA full time and I was also the student weight room manager / strength and conditioning coach while still finding time to train like a possessed animal 4 days a week with my buddy Milo but that’s just fucking life I missed my opening attempt in the squat (something I never do and never have again) then I threw a hissy fit and my belt, I was angry at the judges, never should have left it in their hands (or eyes) should have buried my squat like I always do so any anger I had should have been directed at myself not them. Of course I had to go searching for my belt and apologize to the meet director then as I walked onto the platform for my 2nd attempt I apologized to each judge, yeah knees wrapped tight as hell, claves cramping but I wanted to apologize. 8 hours after my squat debacle the deadlift started and by this time I was just mentally spent and wasn’t paying attention to the scores, I was relying on someone else to do that while I was too busy “mind fucking myself” so after I finished my 3rd attempt my buddy Tim Bruner says “that was too easy, why’d you hit that and not a heavier?” Then he tells me, I had just lost the Texas Powerlifting Championship by 5 damn pounds!!! 5 pounds because I was too busy relying on someone else for something I wanted, I was too busy letting crap affect me that I had no control over and I lost what I could control. (side note: I carried a 5 pound plate in my gym bag until I won the Championship in 1996!!) #powersportstrengthconditioning #oldstrongguysrule #3xlstout

Pulling in for a quick Buc-ee’s stop (is it ever a quick stop?!!) on my trip to @Sorinex Summer Strong and realized that exactly 2 years ago today I stopped at this very Buc-cee’s on the way to Summer Strong 17 and received a text message I had been waiting for telling me that I was awarded my interim security clearance and a deferral from SOCOM allowing me to start a fantastic coaching opportunity in Destin Florida. I thought then and I still think the same thing now… to me there is not a better place to celebrate than with my friends at Sorinex Summer Strong especially after the absolute bullshit I had been battling felt like I was playing Rockem Sockem Robots in real life and loosing!!! #powersportstrengthconditioning #oldstrongguysrule #3xlstout
