“I haven’t seen a single district’s plan that if we were to multiply—OK, what percentage of kids are getting tutors, what percentage of kids are going to summer school—if we were to do that math, it would add up to [make up for] the magnitude of loss that we’ve seen,” Kane said.

So...the way we've always done it STILL isn't working? So spending on standardized tests and tutoring, and canned/scripted curricula isn't working? BUT those making decisions and influencing decision-makers are NOT going about it all wrong? Hmm...

What a great idea for leaders of schools implementing #PBL!! How do you involve the community in #pbl projects? This is a great start! (Bonuses - it’s fun and builds a positive culture)
The most fun in-service I was ever a part of was a community scavenger hunt. In teams, we drove around to predetermined local businesses & orgs to learn more about the community. In the afternoon we got together and brainstormed ideas for community project partners.
“There is no teacher shortage. There’s a teacher recruitment and retention problem. There’s a “making the job attractive enough to draw in the people we want” problem. There is a problem that requires a careful, thoughtful diagnosis.” Peter Greene - Forbes forbes.com/sites/petergreene…

Our Driving Question - "How can we make our own Lego art exhibit at school?" Inspired by @artofthebrick and @NathanSawaya, 5-year-olds are working on their group habitat sculptures. Then we did a feedback protocol where kids shared "I likes" and "What ifs?" and revised/added on.

I can’t love this enough. Standardized testing needs it’s own accountability - and it should NOT be students. IMO.
School funding should not be determined by performance on one test, given one day. But that’s exactly what HB4545 and SB 2094 would do. Tell lawmakers #FundStudentsNotTestScores #TxLege #TxEd p2a.co/q0Xel1Z

Because “that’s the way we’ve always done it” isn’t a reason to continue oppressive traditions.
Hey, Educators. Sometimes the things we’ve done as tradition require some evaluation. When we know better, we must do better. colorfulpages.org/2019/03/12… @ColorfulPages
