The world is digital. The present & future are digital. But what’s the point in talking about the future if digital spaces are unsafe? As we mark #16DaysOfActivism we join all actors in saying no to all forms of TF-GBV.

In Recife, Pernambuco - Brazil, representing @elfafrica1 at the first Amefricanas in South-South Politics Meeting that ends today, and thereafter, the Conecta Latinas meeting. The aim of these events hosted by The Update Institute is to strengthen ties and promote a powerful exchange of experiences in the work of promoting and enhancing women’s political participation and democratic innovation for progressive women in Latin America, the Caribbean, and the African continent. Ongoing conversations are an invaluable resource to our work in #TheGoodPolitician project designed to increase young women’s political leadership in Kenya. The last two days have impressed one key message on me: shared struggles call for joint strengths and strategies; and rethinking solutions that no longer serve social justice and feminist movements. Here is a quote by Lilia Watson shared in the room yesterday that has stuck with me: “If you have come here to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together” ~ Lilia Watson

Why is it so hard for some Africans to get a European visa? 111,201 Nigerians applied for Schengen visas last year at €90 each. 46% of them were denied, so they lost over $5 million in non-refundable visa fees. 66,329 Kenyans applied but 29% were rejected; a loss of nearly $2m
