One of my favourite things this year has been the displays that I use and refer to almost every day! I thought I’d share just in case anyone fancied using the arrival of the exam season to revive displays that may have seen better days… #TeamEnglish drive.google.com/drive/folde…

🚨 NEW: We’re scrapping single headline Ofsted judgements with immediate effect. Ofsted judgements have been high stakes for schools, low information for parents. We’ll: ✅ Give parents more transparency ✅ Drive high & rising standards ✅ Pave the way for school report cards

I approach GCSE P1 Q3 by getting students to look at the openings of two different versions of Little Red Riding Hood. One is the traditional, once-upon-a-time version. The other is narrated by Red Riding Hood, and starts by describing what it's like inside the wolf's stomach. 🧵

After some really useful AQA CPD, I decided a different method of quote explosion based on the feedback from the last assessment. The quality of the comments today was much stronger as a result 🙌

A really productive lesson developing exam strategy for Language Paper 1 with one of my favourite extracts 🙌The slap on the board as the doll is smashed always wakes up the class too!

1. Seems to me the biggest problem we have with workload reduction for teachers is that we just can't conceive of a way they can do less so all our solutions are aimed at getting them doing their existing workloads faster and more efficiently. This seems to make sense but..

I do, we do, you do. Language paper 1, Question 3🙌🏼 The colours really help students visualise where they are/aren’t meeting the success criteria.

Some really brilliant points here about unseen poetry!

Last but not least... Unseen poetry, Sections A and B. I was really interested prior to marking how students would respond to Scaffolding as unpicking the layers relies on understanding the central conceit. I think it's really helpful to approach unseen poems in class by

We are reflecting on how far we’ve come on our literacy journey since Easter 2021. We started on a burning platform 🔥 23.9% of our cohort were functionally illiterate (nationally, 17% adults are FI)* This week, that figure stands at just 5.8% 🧵 ⬇️ 1/ *NLT

I had a brilliant day yesterday at my NPQLL conference and it's made me completely rethink how I teach the actual process of writing at secondary, specifically editing. This is by no means perfect. I'd love to hear what others do in #TeamEnglish
