Oh no!
Incredibly sad to hear J G Windows in Newcastle has closed. A Tyneside musical icon, along with The City Hall, Mayfair, The Club a'Gogo... Its almost philanthropic approach to many of the region's performers and our culture was unique. The region lost a bit of its heart today.

Teachers matter. But tackling inequality has to be more than putting a good teacher at the front of a classroom. #ChildPoverty

Schools cannot ā€˜teach’ their way out of educational inequality because #poverty is not just a problem for education, it's a problem for society. PhD researcher @SeanHarris_NE says we must rethink how we approach this agenda in schools buff.ly/3ADrPtx #teaching #education

And every school needs teachers and leaders like this šŸ‘‡
Every coaching environment needs a version of Steve BlackšŸ‘‡ šŸ—£ā€If anything goes wrong at any time, forget it and wipe the slate clean. You’re all good players, all I want you to remember is how good of a player you are.ā€

It was the highlight of my career this morning to lead a dedication service to our memorial to the fallen. The soldier disappears as you approach it just as those who fell disappeared, only to reappear a second later; as we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. We gathered this morning to not only remember those that served in the past, but those that still serve today, such as those at @rafboulmer just up the road from us. An art installation like no other, installed permanently on our site by a local ex forces fabricator, who also happens to be a parent. Words do not give this justice... @PeleTrustCEO @PoppyLegion @BBCNews @StnCdrBoulmer @alnwickgazette

Important paper on the current state of educational research:Ā  We need better evidence says Rich Mayer. Most education research is non-experimental or correlational and that’s not good enough.Ā  link.springer.com/article/10…

Another one for the 'short interventions producing significant effects' file: just a single session —where students practice aligning fractions with integers on number lines—can lead to pretty decent improvements. Also interesting that using analogies in Maths helps schema building by relating new concepts to more familiar ones for long-term retention transfer of knowledge. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

This budget paves the way for the biggest devolution deal in North East history. This budget gives the people of the North East more control over our own future. With more freedom from Whitehall and Westminster, we will make our region the home of real opportunity.
Treasury confirms that the North East mayor will be given a single, integrated funding settlement from 2026/27 - giving @KiMcGuinness more freedom over how to spend NECA's money. Greater Manchester and West Midlands will benefit from that a year earlier.
