Obesity doesn't just affect the waistline—it reshapes the brain. Emerging evidence suggests chronic metabolic overload disrupts neurovascular coupling, blood–brain barrier integrity, cerebrospinal fluid dynamics, and myelination, creating conditions that may accelerate neurodegeneration. As obesity and neurological disorders rise in parallel, understanding these interconnected pathways could reveal new strategies to protect brain health across the lifespan. #Neuroscience#Obesity#BrainHealthnature.com/articles/s42255-0…

ALT Infographic titled "OMNI-Carb" with a focus on dietary carbohydrate content and glycemic index (GI). It features various graphs and icons. Top section shows a comparison of blood glucose responses between "Low carb, low GI" and "High carb, high GI" diets. Middle section highlights "Comprehensive and quantitative lipidomic analysis," including charts and scales. Bottom text explains the study's findings on lipid content, fatty acids, and glucose.
I’m honored to be appointed as
Medical Director of the @MayoClinic Peripheral Nerve Pathology Laboratory. Big shoes to fill after Dr. Jim Dyck led the lab for the past 20 years. Before him, the legendary lab founder and director was Professor Peter Dyck.
I’m forever grateful to my family, mentors, and patients. I will do my best to elevate our laboratory to new heights and discover innovative therapies for our patients.
Proud moment for the NEUROdiab Youth Committee!
Our first paper, born from last year’s NEUROdiab debate on whether clinical diabetic neuropathy is reversible, is now published in the journal of @PNSociety1
Special thanks to @CallaghanNeuro and Bruce Perkins for leading the debate
Grateful to see our recent work included in this thoughtful @Diabetes_ADA commentary by Brett Morrison highlighting the emerging role of metabolic syndrome in peripheral neuropathy 👇🏻

In this week’s #PAIN Featured Image, Eldesouky et al. depict the progressive decline of C-fiber nociceptive structure and function across sensory phenotypes in diabetic neuropathy, from normal sensory responses to hyperalgesia and sensory loss bit.ly/4uloSUz
A new artificial intelligence (AI) tool has mapped how obesity affects the entire body at the cellular level, revealing widespread damage far beyond fat tissue @naturebuff.ly/NX3Y853
The @Neurodiab_eu Youth Committee continues to make remarkable strides. Don't miss their innovative review article, born from a lively debate on whether diabetic neuropathy can be reversed. It’s open access! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Proud mentor moment 🥹
Over the past two years, @kiriluk22390 has been an incredible part of the lab, and now she’s graduating from @UMich with 2 papers already under her belt. Very excited for what’s ahead for her 🤩
Another great addition to the @Neurodiab_eu Youth Committee Hallmark Papers series, featuring the influential @cochranecollab by @CallaghanNeuro@EvaFeldmanMDPhD et al. on glucose control and diabetic neuropathy
Plus an author perspective from Brian himself. Worth checking out 👇🏻
The NEUROdiab Youth Committee continues its initiative of Hallmark Papers highlighting seminal articles in #diabeticneuropathy. The 3rd paper is the Cochrane review on glucose control and diabetic neuropathy with a comment of Prof. Brian Callaghan (neurodiab.eu/education-tools)
