This afternoon, I called my mum and told her not to collect anything APC people might give her. I explained to her why I believe Nigeria cannot afford another four years of the same leadership and how the decisions we make today will affect our future. I even told her that if anyone offered her money to vote for APC, I would personally give her three times the amount. My mother has never been the type to ask me for money or anything else; everything I hustle for is because I want her to be comfortable. That's why I felt it was important to have that conversation with her and make sure she understands what is at stake.
One thing we as youths must understand is that tweeting, arguing online, and complaining about the state of the country are not enough. We also need to take these conversations home. Many of our parents are not active on social media and may not have access to the same information we see every day. Some only hear what politicians want them to hear during campaign periods.
We should respectfully engage our parents, relatives, and elders, discuss the issues affecting the country, and encourage them to make informed decisions based on facts, not gifts or temporary promises. Democracy works best when people vote with knowledge and conviction.
The future of this country belongs to all of us. Let's not only seek votes; let's spread awareness. A well-informed voter is harder to deceive. π³π¬βπΎ
