ALT Making Pathways Meet: Promising Directions for Publicly Engaged Doctoral Training. October 26, 2023, 12:45 PM-2:15 PM ET, Lincoln. In this session, representatives from the American Council of Learned Societies, faculty, and graduate students discuss Preparing Community-Engaged Scholars: A Toolkit, a collaboratively written report on training doctoral students to conduct rigorous, ethical, innovative community and publicly-engaged research. Writing teams conducted research projects covering topics as diverse as the tactics of the US immigration detention regime, community-responsive municipal transit policies, and supporting bilingual community health workers. This session features active conversation, as audience members will rotate between groups to discuss with project participants their experiences, findings, and strategies for mapping PhD student paths to research and career success.
