📣 A little bit of news from me 📣
I’ve written a book !! 😮😮
It’s about some really important people from the 20th century avant-garde who’ve had a massive impact on the way your favourite pop music is made.
I met some super cool people (see pics for a couple of highlights) and went on a little adventure to see some very interesting places.
It’s been a joy and a privilege to work with @FaberBooks to make this happen. Cover by Robbie Porter. It comes out in August….. Pre-order and info: uk.bookshop.org/p/books/ever…
Had a lovely week listening to A LOT of radio and picking some real gems for @BBCRadio4’s Pick of the Week. Listen today 18:15 📻
Highlights from @giles_fraser exploring Bob Dylan’s faith in Beyond Belief and the late Andy Kershaw takes us back 60 years to Manchester’s Free Trade Hall with the man who served rock’s most famous heckle.
Also Kevin Le Gendre pays tribute to Miles Davis on @bbcradio3’s The Essay @reducedlisten, @BBCNuala finds ways to feel wonder in @BBCWomansHour with @nataliefee 🌳 and Guy Garvey tells hilarious anecdotes from his teenage years @BBC6Music. Roger McGough reads poems and talks to Front Row about the @southbankcentre’s excellent Poet In Every Port initiative and there’s something strange happening of the coast of Cornwall @BBCCornwall 🌊
The idea that great art might improve your wellbeing shouldn't be a surprise to any of us, of course, but it's still brilliant to see this research from @ucl being covered today: theguardian.com/science/2026…
Elizabeth Alker has won the RPS Storytelling Award for her book Everything We Do Is Music, joining the dots between classical and pop music. 🥂

What an absolute honour to win the @RoyalPhilSoc Storytelling Award 🏆
I really hoped my book, Everything We Do Music, would celebrate the brilliant minds of classical music and pop and open the door to classical music for people who think it might not be for them (just as @BBCRadio3 does every day). To be recognised by the RPS really does mean the world ❤️
@FaberBooks
Very honoured to be shortlisted for the Penderyn Music Book Prize @PenderynPrize alongside these superstars. It’s gonna be a cracking do at the Laugharne Festival next week….
The incredible Suzanne Ciani, 5-time Grammy Award nominee, synth pioneer, creator of the sound of a Coca-cola bottle opening and the first woman to score a Hollywood film (The Incredible Shrinking Woman in 1981) was my guest on Unclassified on @BBCRadio3 last night. And for International Women’s Day we had a super all-female playlist. Listen here: bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002b66…
My book became a question on the new series of the legendary @BBCRadio4 Counterpoint! (And with a little mention for @bbcradio3)
21 years ago I was a production assistant on Counterpoint. I wrote a question round about Madonna, and Ned Sherrin was the host then - you weren’t allowed to call him while The Archers was on!
Huge thanks to @elizabethalker for spinning the title track from Forever Neon Lights on Unclassified @BBCRadio3 on Sunday night. So heartwarming to hear the record on such an inspiring, mind-opening show. If you’ve never tuned in, you absolutely should ❤️📻 Thank you Elizabeth x
