Ooft, what a week! It all started with putting up bat boxes, surveys of a former railway tunnel, a woodland on a bridge, peat/soil depth probing and a wind farm development. Did someone say this is the start of the quiet season…😆

It might be the start of the ecology ‘silly season’ but it’s hard to think about that whilst our team are out undertaking newt surveys. The night surveys are underway! 😆👍

After an extended Christmas break and ahead of returning to the office on Monday, some of the team took a walk around The Hermitage in #Dunkeld on the banks of the River Braan in Craigvinean Forest. Fantastic to get the ecology brain working again! 😆

That’s it for 2023 folks and what a year it’s been!
2023 has been another fantastic year for Team Ellendale. Thank you for following our stories and being part of our journey this year.
To all of you from all of us – Merry Christmas and happy holidays!

It’s not everyday we find shore crabs on site during an ECoW walkover. Shore crabs can live in all types of marine and estuarine habitats as well as tolerating a wide range of salinities and temperatures.

The machine and the pincers are making light work of the bridge structure with a force of around 14 tonnes. Iit's equal to the bite from two and a half Tyrannosaurs Rex or the bite from 13,000 saltwater crocodiles! 🦖🐊

It’s bridge demolition day! Our team are on site providing a watching brief during the works around an otter holt that was closed at the start of the project. The ECoW role is required under the licence conditions for the project.

Snow is falling… all around us… 😆
We’re maybe 54 days early with the song lyrics but the snow arrived today on a project our ecologists are working on which is located north-west of Invermoriston, Scotland in the Great Glen.
