I was pleased to hold a virtual meeting with , the well-known American lawyer based in New York and President of the United Jewish Organizations of Williamsburg and North Brooklyn, a long-established organization founded in 1966.
During the meeting, we discussed a number of humanitarian issues related to Yemen, most notably the recent prisoner exchange agreement, which Rabbi David welcomed and described as an important humanitarian step that could help ease the suffering of many Yemeni families, while emphasizing the importance of continuing this humanitarian process away from any other considerations.
We also discussed the continued detention of Yemeni Jewish detainee Levi Salem Marhabi and the reasons preventing his release so far, in addition to the situation of the Yemeni Jewish community and the importance of preserving its cultural and social heritage as an integral part of Yemen’s diverse identity and history.
I had previously met Rabbi Niederman in New York last year. He is deeply committed to community service and works tirelessly to provide social services and support refugees in New York. We have also previously worked together in supporting Yemeni Jewish families who were forcibly displaced by the Houthi militia in recent years.
