Scammers are calling, sending SMS and WhatsApp messages, pretending to be municipal officials and demanding immediate payments to prevent supposed disconnections. THE MUNICIPALITY WILL NEVER DEMAND URGENT TRANSFERS INTO PERSONAL ACCOUNTS.

Cllr Hassan Mako Elected New Executive Mayor Today, 10 June 2026, Councillors have officially elected Cllr. Hassan Mako as the new Executive Mayor of Emfuleni Local Municipality. Cllr. Mako assumes the Office of the Executive Mayor with immediate effect. He will provide political leadership, chair the Mayoral Committee, and oversee the implementation of Council’s Integrated Development Plan and service delivery programs. Emfuleni Local Municipality remains committed to transparent governance, accountability, and improving the quality of life for all residents. We congratulate Cllr. LIVE UPDATE | 136th Ordinary Council Sitting Council Sitting is currently in session at the Mayor’s Parlour. Councillors are deliberating and voting to elect the Mayor. This follows the legal requirement to ensure continued administrative leadership and political oversight of municipal functions, including service delivery, budget implementation, and community programs. The Mayor will serve in this capacity ensuring that Council operations, Mayoral Committee duties, and decision-making processes continue without interruption. The restoration of water supply is expected today. UPDATE: RAND WATER MAINTENANCE – EMERGENCY LEAK REPAIRS AT VEREENIGING WATER TREATMENT PLANT IMPACT WATER SUPPLY RECOVERY Following the charging of the pipeline, a leak occurred on the A21 pipeline. As a result, the pipeline had to be isolated and drained to facilitate the necessary repairs. Consequently, Rand Water’s Vereeniging Water Purification Station was required to reduce its supply to Vanderbijlpark. According to Rand repair work is expected to be completed by 01 June 2026 at 07:00. #SaveWaterGP #emfuleni

System Recovery Update: Rand Water Planned Maintenance : Work has now been completed ahead of the originally planned completion date of 31 May 2026. The pipelines are expected to be fully charged later tonight. Full water restoration is anticipated by tomorrow. Earlier today: MEC for Infrastructure Development and COGTA, Jacob Mamabolo, earlier today in Emfuleni monitoring water supply in affected areas.

SYSTEM RECOVERY UPDATE - RANDWATER MAINTENANCE Maintenance work is 75% complete.
