At the US Conference of Mayors meeting in Washington, a group of about 40 Republican and Democratic mayors was asked just now to raise their hands if they had a project in their cities funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure law. All of them did.
.@CapehartJ: "I’m confident history will judge @POTUS extremely favorably...Biden is a good man who brought his entire imperfect self to the world’s most unforgiving job, and his faith in the American people was unshakable."
.@CAgovernor: "It's impossible for me to express the level of appreciation and cooperation we've received from the White House and this administration."
"So on behalf of all of us, Mr. President, thank you for being here...since the minute of this incident"
"Deep gratitude"

At 12:15pmET, @POTUS will convene members of his homeland security team in the Situation Room to receive an update on the investigation into the terrorist attack in New Orleans.
I applaud @POTUS in his decision to commute the sentences of 37 individuals on federal death row.
Many death sentences, reflecting disparate treatment and inadequate defense counsel, have been unjustly adjudicated and wrongly administered.
This historic and extraordinary action is a crucial step in remedying grave injustices.
I am commuting the sentences of 37 individuals on federal death row to life sentences without the possibility of parole.
This action is consistent with my Administration's moratorium on federal executions, except for cases involving terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder.
ALT Statement from President Joe Biden on Federal Death Row Commutations
I’ve dedicated my career to reducing violent crime and ensuring a fair and effective justice system.
Today, I am commuting the sentences of 37 of the 40 individuals on federal death row to life sentences without the possibility of parole. These commutations are consistent with the moratorium my Administration has imposed on federal executions, in cases other than terrorism and hate-motivated mass murder.
Make no mistake: I condemn these murderers, grieve for the victims of their despicable acts, and ache for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss.
But guided by my conscience and my experience as a public defender, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Vice President, and now President, I am more convinced than ever that we must stop the use of the death penalty at the federal level. In good conscience, I cannot stand back and let a new administration resume executions that...
I applaud President Biden’s courageous decision to commute 37 federal death row sentences. This historic step confronts the racial bias and harm caused by the death penalty system and answers the call we made to prioritize justice, dignity, and the value of all human life.
BREAKING: President Joe Biden announced he is commuting the sentences of 37 of the 40 people on federal death row, converting their punishments to life imprisonment mere weeks before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. apnews.com/article/biden-dea…
Today, in a historic move, the Biden-Harris Administration announced sweeping commutations of nearly all people on federal death row to life sentences.
"We're proud to see the Biden-Harris administration make history by sparing the lives of these individuals and setting an important precedent in the face of rising extremist and anti-humanitarian rhetoric and policy."

Re: shutdown —
OMB has ceased shutdown preparations because there is a high degree of confidence that Congress will imminently pass the relevant appropriations and the President will sign the bill on Saturday.
Agencies will not shut down and may continue normal operations.
THREAD: Through interviews and historic new actions, @POTUS is running through the tape, continuing to fight for families.

.@andrewrsorkin on the President's Economic Legacy - ahead of his remarks today:
"I think history is actually going to look relatively fondly, if not MORE than relatively fondly, upon what's happened over the last four years."
Before Walz took the stage in Milwaukee tonight, I got a call from a number unlike any I'd ever seen. It ended with four zeroes. I picked it up.
It was Joe Biden. 🧵
Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation.
This @NBCNews piece is extremely misleading.
The figure is much smaller than 600. Many of these individuals are not gang members. Many are victims of crimes. And many others are in law enforcement custody.
