My trial in federal court is today. I just spoke outside the courthouse alongside
@JuliaCarmel__, who is serving as a witness in the case.
Since ICE started abducting asylum-seekers one year ago, I’ve been court-watching along with thousands of you. During one of these sessions last September, I was arrested along with 75 New Yorkers and 10 other elected officials, as we demanded access to the 10th floor of 26 Federal Plaza, where ICE was detaining people in hideous conditions.
In December, I pleaded “not guilty” instead of taking a plea deal that would have required that I not protest in a federal building for six months. Let’s be clear: the crime was not what we were doing at 26 Federal Plaza. The crime is what ICE is doing there.
We must stand up fearlessly against Trump & his rogue ICE agents to protect our immigrant neighbors and the rule of law. That’s what I was doing when I was arrested, and that’s what I’m doing today.
