"Any direction that Scotland takes in seeking to increase rather than reduce exclusions would be a grave error... Exclusions do not address the consequences of behaviour, it merely displaces it."
Strong response to BISSR from @ThePromiseScotthepromise.scot/news/support…
In the discussion of relationships& behaviour in schools in @ScotParl this afternoon, only @_MWhitfield centred children and young people's perspective.
The BISSR report didn't engage at all with children so although it tells us what, we know nothing more of why.
Children and young people MUST be involved at all levels going forward, including in the development of the National Action Plan, to better understand their challenges and to involve them in the solutions
Solutions must be rights-respecting, non-stigmatising and address the unmet needs of children and young people.
Others will have more to say particularly on exclusions, the links with the justice system & the ambitions of #ThePromise@susanmcvie @Jimmypaul90 @fionathepromise
The best way to end the week - an interview with the amazing Agents for Change @jkmc3 ✨️
They asked about how @YouthLinkScot prioritises children's rights and which rights we could do better on.
Their rights priorities were:
🛡 Protection from violence
💡Education
🪪 Identity
This is exactly the kind of issue we are trying to tackle using #RestorativeApproaches in Falkirk. Hopefully youth workers at the ready to support young people in Fort William to make positive choices and open back up the space for all YP

This is a very vulnerable piece for me.

A woman has today been sentenced to 28 months in prison for ending her own pregnancy in England under a law passed before women even had the vote.
It’s a very dark day for women’s reproductive rights in the U.K.

A pleasure to spend this evening with @Youth1stFife talking about #ChildrensRights ✨️
Lots of amazing rights-respecting practice happening but we also identified lots of rights that aren't being fulfilled for children and young people in Fife
ALT Where are children's rights not being met in Fife/Scotland? This question is surrounded by yellow boxes with suggestions such as: child poverty; right to food; education for disabled children; bullying in schools; appropriate and suitable housing
Supporting young people who are experiencing grief is really difficult, I hope this will help to ensure there is support tailored to every individuals needs.💜
A massive thanks to @EmilyBeever for asking me to be involved, it was an amazing experience!
