'If shops do think it's fine for two more days then just make the date longer' 'Milk goes sour and looks bad and smells bad before it does you bad' Do you trust the 'sniff test' for gone-off food?

Me on breakfast TV this morning, talking about milk and whether you can use the #snifftest to see if it’s safe. A: yes, but because milk smells bad and looks bad before it does you bad. That’s not true for many other foods. Follow the advice on the packaging.

We're doing these messages every few weeks- either from me or from the Chair. This one is on CBD products. The one before was on our new strategy. If you'd like to get them by email sign up via the link on the page.
Our Chief Executive @EmilyHMiles explains the challenge of getting the balance right between protecting consumers and supporting industry in our work to regulate the cannabidiol (CBD) market. food.blog.gov.uk/2022/05/09/…

Thanks for such an informative visit. I've been wanting to visit Felixstowe ever since working on Brexit at Defra. Import controls are such a key part of of ensuring the UK has food we can trust, and Port Health Authorities' work is essential. You gave us a lovely welcome!
SCPHA welcomed the Chief Executive Officer and other high-profile representatives of @foodgov to show how import controls are carried out on food and animal-related goods at Britain's busiest container port. Read more here: porthealth.uk/updates/food-s…

Very excited to share this @RadRefPod with @EmilyHMiles, Chief Executive of @foodgov and previous holder of a range of very senior central government posts. Emily talks about leadership and also what makes a good "bridge" between central government policy and local delivery.

This episode is with @EmilyHMiles, Chief Executive of the @foodgov. Before that Emily held a number of very senior central government positions. It is a brilliant listen if you are interested in learning about authentic leadership. radical-reformers.com/episod…

My first appearance on a podcast. Listen to learn more about @foodgov and Brexit, Food fraud, how we work with local authorities, and my views about leadership. And why I once did 6 weeks of dance classes.

I wanted to share what I wore yesterday, for a @foodgov event, on #InternationalWomensDay2022 . I'm reminded by so much at the moment that the power of solidarity is tangible in the face of vulnerability. Women have known that for a long time. Thank you to all who went before.

A good reminder from the BPC. Avian influenza's already feeling bad this year.
Another reminder that excellent #Biosecurity is essential to 🤜 #AvianInfluenza. Fail to plan = fail to prevent disease spread = fail to protect your birds. Got any questions? Our #BiosecurityChecklist is here to help!

Two of my favourite things, citizen science and food, in one excellent initiative. If you are a bottle-feeding parent, an allergic consumer or simply someone who owns a chopping board (who doesn't?), then there is a project you can get involved with...take a look below!
With @UKRI_news, @BBSRC and @ESRC we’re funding 6 citizen science projects exploring issues affecting the food system. The public will be contributing to the evidence on which food policy decisions are made.

Thank you Matt. Here at @foodgov we do lots to support those with allergies, food intolerances and coeliac disease so that they can have food they can trust.
Following on from 'Free From' Week on the Bake Off, I am happy to share this info...

Could not be more proud of everyone in @DefraGovUK who has worked so hard to make this possible, with all the many stakeholders along the way. It is just the start, but is a historic milestone.

#COP26 has ignited a conversation @foodgov about the role industry must play in achieving net-zero ambitions. Read @Foodgov Chief Scientific Adviser @RobinMay9’s blog on the intended direction on eco-labelling and the environmental impact of food choices: food.blog.gov.uk/2021/11/05/…
