Our first guest post on Infrastory, this time a deep dive on inland water transport from @jrurbanenetwork.bsky.social
The focus of this article is how a huge portion of global commerce moves, but people seldom recognize its significance, and like many other modes of transportation China is doing incredible things. Learn more about inland waterways now:

Ontario's Bill 98 on Transit integration is a huge opportunity. I completely understand people's apprehensiveness, but if done right, this can build on OneFare's success to make things better for both riders and agencies. 1/

Done right, this is provincial money flowing to support local transit, lower fares for riders, a smarter fare structure for the whole region, and a network that actually works together. This can be a win for everyone 12/

I completely understand the trepidation, but a better integrated transit system with more provincial funding for struggling municipal agencies is a good thing. That's the successful OneFare model. We need to make sure that's what we get from this legislation 13/

I wrote another piece for Infrastory on why we shouldn’t go too far in rejecting the idea of megaprojects.
Megaprojects get an unreasonably bad rap, perhaps we just only remember the bad ones. Read the latest Infrastory now:

In case you missed it, my article on the creation of the Paris RER and how it shows the value of solving problems creatively through interagency cooperation rather than just engineering (solving none call problems!) open.substack.com/pub/infras…

Paris’ RER started with leveraging suburban rail networks from “the age of rail” What made RER a huge success was the ability to break away from the long established ways of operating trains towards creating a regional rail network that served the growing region’s needs
Paris’ RER is a perfect example of solving phone call problems. Instead of duplicating infrastructure because different agencies controlled it, Paris made sharing work. It saved a fortune and created Europe’s most impressive regional rail network. open.substack.com/pub/infras…

The Paris RER is one of the greatest transit systems ever constructed but it wouldn't have happened if not for a junket to Japan. Read the latest Infrastory now:
