Results below - thanks all! As @adisubra mentioned, P2 can guarantee a 75% win chance w/o predictions: P2 does this by moving randomly, w/ probabilities quite close to this poll's results. There are a couple of points I want to make about why I think this is so interesting!🧵

I'm curious how VGC players think about predictions vs random chance. Suppose you have a mid HP Porygon2 against a low HP Zacian in turn 5 of Trick Room. Zacian used Protect last turn. Sacred Sword KOs p2; a crit does not KO after recover. (picture in thread) What would you do?

Many players still make a prediction. I’ve never seen someone flip a coin in tournament. But *either* player can guarantee the 75%-25% outcome w/ coin flips. The only reason not to flip coins is if *both* players think they have a better chance by predicting their opponent.

However you feel about prediction, I think this perspective is invaluable for endgame analysis. This endgame is, in some sense, analogous to one decided by whether Sleep Powder hits. It also gives a way of discussing endgame strategies even when there is no guaranteed win.
