I applied for a role on March 4. The first sign of anything I get from the TA team is ... a rejection. Today. June 12. That's more than 90 days between application and any form of response. @Affirm you can do better than that.

Last night I learned about turbovec. Today I wrote the PHP bindings for an extension to use it. packagist.org/packages/displ… Here it is in action (along with ext-infer, released a few days earlier). Full embedding and semantic search pipelines in #PHP :-)

If having $11m after paying taxes, gifting to parents, buying the house, and buying the car is scarily close to "having nothing" imagine how scary it is for founders still in bootstrap phase with no buffer or safety net...
Every founder pictures the same thing when they think about selling their company. The yacht. The private jet. Summers in Italy. What @tobi_pearce11 said actually happens after a $25 million exit: "You wave goodbye to 30% straight off the top. Taxes, fees, lawyers, accountants. You've gone from 25 to 16." "Then you spend 5 million. Buy a car, give your parents some money, buy a house. You end up with 11 million." "Almost everyone I've talked to who's been through a real exit had the exact same reaction. Oh my God, I don't want to lose this money. You're 2 or 3 bad choices away from nothing."

Embeddings work just as well as token generation. Qwen3 0.6B is a small model (~600MB) so things fit well on a typical small-ish server. But you can still get 1024 dimensions and cosine similarity with minimal lift! Again, all in native PHP :-)
Finally got the first version of ext-infer polished and released. It's still very much a v0.x but this is a fully operational demonstration of native PHP loading and executing pre-trained models. Use it for LLM chats, embeddings, you name it. Local inference, native PHP.

Install it using PIE today. Full code is live on GitHub, binaries available via Packagist. Documentation at infer.displace.tech #PHP #LLM #extensions

Working on a little project to expose LLM inference to native PHP using pre-trained models. First working prototype is a success (simple, but a success all the same)!

Should I or shouldn't I submit some talks to @LonghornPHP ? What topics would you want me to cover? I've got fresh talks on security, infra, semantic search in Laravel ... Give me your wish list.

Combatting malware is difficult. Often, my reports to law enforcement fall on impotent ears. Not because they don't want to do something. But because "this is bad" without a detailed explanation of why is unactionable.

Thanks to @AnthropicAI I can usually fast track forensic analysis to report on IOCs and C2C servers and attack behavior. Usually. Because often Claude will lock me out for a perceived violation of the AUP during my forensics.

I fill out the little form every time. But it hoses my workflow regardless. And the more I think about it the less it makes sense. "Hey Claude, someone sent me this and it looks weird. Tell me what it does." <- this somehow results in an AUP violation after enough turns.

Every time I go to Costco I'm reminded they discontinued the $0.99 twisted churros and I cry a bit inside...

Shout out to all the women who've ever come up to me at a conference or tech event and told me that seeing me speaking or leading a major OSS project inspired them to do something, you give me life 🫶

Last Friday I witnessed a horrific traffic accident. A stopped car was t-boned by a pickup traveling at hwy speeds. The occupants were taken to the nearest hospital and are on the way to recovery. But they need help. If you have the means, please consider donating to help them.

Helping my toddler get dressed tonight and his arms got stuck in his pjs. Perfect opportunity. Channeling my inner @nzfilmmaker "I see you fell for my tickle trap! Works every time!" No. I won't show him the source material... He's only 4 ... Eventually tho ... #vldl

Just learned that, somehow, an old WordPress site of a defunct business of mine is still working. And someone in Bulgaria bought my lapsed domain and pointed it at said site... Ugh. This is not gonna be fun to unwind.
