1. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture today had the distinct honor of hosting Her Excellency, the Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang , as an intersection of leadership and stewardship in advancing Ghana's agricultural For EconomicTransformationAgenda.
2. As Minister, I had the privilege of presenting a summary account of the strategic initiatives and transformative efforts undertaken under my leadership to reshape the nation's agricultural landscape, focused on the pragmatic measures implemented by the Ministry, which constitute key interventions designed to vigorously combat persistent challenges such as substantial food import bills and pervasive inflationary pressures.
3. Central to these overarching interventions is the Feed Ghana Programme, a comprehensive initiative aimed at boosting domestic food production. The strategic strengthening of our National Food Buffer Stock and the deliberate expansion of irrigation infrastructure and vegetable production are pivotal components of our strategy to ensure a consistent and reliable food supply across the nation.
4. Another significant aspect of our discussion also revolved around the revitalization of the poultry sector, a crucial area for both economic growth and protein provision for our basic and secondary school children.
5. Concurrently, l also highlighted targeted initiatives designed to support vulnerable women, providing them with the resources and opportunities to establish sustainable livelihoods and ameliorate poverty, thereby bringing inclusive economic development.
6. The Ministry's investment in essential support services was also a focal point, emphasizing the critical role of soil and crop testing in optimizing agricultural yields and qually important is the Ministry's commitment to provide support towards development of value added chains through enhanced processing and marketing capabilities, thereby adding value to agricultural produce and increasing returns for farmers.
7. The establishment of Farmer Service Centers, a government initiative, represents a significant step towards modernizing agricultural practices. These centers, when completed will be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and expert technical support, designed to empower farmers in every district.
8. I expressed, on behalf of the Ministry’s commitment and preparedness, under my stewardship, that The National Food Buffer Stock has achieved significant progress fiscally and storage wise and is now exceptionally well-positioned to actualize the President’s vision for robust food security. Through these concerted efforts, we are collectively building a more resilient, productive, and self-sufficient agricultural sector for Ghana, laying the groundwork for sustained prosperity and well-being for all citizens.
