Toronto has declared a Major Snow Storm and activated our Major Snow Event Response Plan. The City’s Emergency Operations Centre is coordinating our response across City divisions, emergency services, and the TTC. We have over 600 plows on roads and sidewalks. Over 1,300 city staff and contractors are mobilized to clear snow. Since last week’s storm, we’ve maintained surge capacity with redeployed city staff. City workers and contractors are plowing and will continue plowing non-stop. Please do not park in areas with “Snow Route” or “No Parking - Snow Removal” signs. 3-1-1 is equipped to help you with extreme cold and snow. Call 9-1-1 in an emergency. Check toronto.ca/winter for regular updates about City services impacted by the storm. Including impacts on city-run child care centres, recreation centres, libraries and more Thank you to everyone working around the clock to keep our city safe and moving.

To ensure pools stay open, and avoid the intermittent closures experienced yesterday due to health and safety rules, here are the actions we're taking immediately: - Deploying additional lifeguards to city pools to manage rest and work schedules in this heat - More shade structures - Working to have medical professionals checking in or stationed on site, as directed by health and safety standards, to make sure everyone stays healthy throughout the day. Pools need to be open during a heat wave. That's obvious to us all. We're making sure we have the resources to keep them safe and healthy for City workers and the public alike. We're fixing it now. Pools are open as normal.
The City of Toronto has pools staffed and ready to help people beat the heat. Given provincial requirements related to heat and humidex (45C ) protocols, some outdoor pools had intermittent closures today to ensure staff health and safety. Staff remained on site to re-open pools as soon as possible. Please check individual pool web pages for updates. In response to the heat warning issued for Sunday, June 22, the following outdoor pools will be open until 11:45 p.m. tonight: Alex Duff Memorial Pool at Christie Pits Park, Fairbank Memorial Swimming Pool, Halbert Park (until 9 p.m.), McGregor Park Community Centre, Monarch Park, North Toronto Memorial Community Centre, Smithfield Park and Sunnyside Gus Ryder Outdoor Pool. Ensuring the safety of residents and City staff remains a key priority. Please note these closure measures were temporary. Regular updates are being posted at toronto.ca/swim. The City apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks residents for their understanding.

Thank you, Nick, for sharing your housing story. The Multi-Unit Residential Acquisition (MURA) program helps non-profits buy apartments to keep them affordable. In 2024, the City secured 700 units—more than all previous years combined—keeping them affordable forever.

Today I welcomed Canadian hero Christine Sinclair to City Hall. No one knows the power of Team Canada like Christine. As we face down a senseless trade war with the United States, Christine and all team Canada athletes remind us that we are stronger when we work together.

What exactly does the proposed “renovictions” bylaw mean? It means landlords can't use loopholes to evict tenants. No more gaming the system. The proposal goes to the Planning and Housing Committee on Tuesday, October 30, and then to City Council in November for a vote.

In Toronto — one of the richest cities in the world — 1 in 10 people rely on a food bank. 1/3 of them are children. This #WorldFoodDay, let's work together for a universal student food program: mayoroliviachow.ca/feedmorek… Let's feed more kids.

The City got more than 13k calls to remove a dead animal last year. It’s the 3rd most common call to 311. But they’re not getting cleared quickly enough. Today, City Council took action to improve response times to these calls and ensure or roads, streets and parks are clean.

The rising cost of groceries is putting a huge strain on families in this city. Thousands of kids in Toronto go to school hungry. You can’t learn like that. Today, City Council voted to expand the existing program and lay the groundwork for a universal school food program.

We’re seeing the success of the accelerated work on the Gardiner. Last night, I joined @PrabSarkaria to see how the 24/7 construction is moving along and briefly check in with some of the workers.

I remember drafting a school food program with Jack on Christmas Eve 1990. As I prepped for today’s exec meeting, I found that old proposal. Kids then are parents now, and today we took a key step towards universal school meals. Read in full: toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2024… 3/3
