Last February, I had the pleasure of visiting Lockport, NY for a WWII exhibit, where I was in conversation with excellent curator, MB Taylor, about Virginia Hall and my novel THE INVISIBLE WOMAN.

The weather will no doubt be gentler, but there was something spectacular about seeing Niagara Falls in winter. If you are anywhere near the area, I highly recommend you visit the exhibit, and I hope it's while I'm there, Tuesday, July 14th, 7pm. bit.ly/3RwPu6W

Memorial Day... These are the Sullivan brothers--5 Irish boys from Iowa. In WWII, they enlisted and were adamant they serve together. The US Navy allowed it, and sadly, on November 13, 1942, they all died together when the USS Juneau was torpedoed in the Battle of Guadalcanal.

In the aftermath of their death, their mother continued her service by sending letters to the men who served with her sons, christening a ship in her sons' honor, and more. When asked how she could muster the strength, she said, "Helping others in sorrow kills your own sorrow."

On St. Patrick's Day, in 2018, the wreckage of the Juneau was found. May the Sullivan brothers, and all service men and women who have given their lives for our freedom, rest in peace. bit.ly/43rVYXf

Was not ready for Eric Church to deliver the best commencement speech I’ve ever heard. Six guitar strings. Six pillars of a life. Faith. Family. Spouse. Ambition. Community. You. Tune them when you’re whole, not just when you’re broken. Watch the whole thing.

Last night, at my son's music concert, the Symphonic Band played "Light Eternal," by James Swearingen, a piece about "The Four Chaplains of WWII," four men who gave their life jackets to others as their ship, the USAT Dorchester--torpedoed by Nazis--sunk in the North Atlantic.

The last anyone saw of the Catholic Priest, Jewish Rabbi, Methodist Clergyman, and Dutch Reformed Minister was the men praying together as the ship went down. Their moving story can be found here: fourchaplains.org/the-four-c…

81 years ago this month (exact date unconfirmed), Violette Szabo of the Special Operations Executive was executed at Ravensbrück Concentration Camp for women. She was a 23-year-old war widow, and left behind a 2-year-old daughter, Tania.

In 1947, King George pinned Tania with her mother's posthumously awarded George Cross, the second highest military honor of the UK. Violette was one of the protagonists of my novel, SISTERS OF NIGHT AND FOG. It was an honor to tell her story. May we never forget.
