I tried umeboshi, the Japanese pickled plum, for the first time the other day—oh my goodness, so salty but the flavor was amazing! Despite the saltiness, I found myself craving one this morning. It has some kind of magic power to tempt and draw you in. I heard a few of my Japanese friends say just looking at one makes their mouth water—I didn’t understand it at the time, but I think I’m beginning to. It gave me a real boost of energy. I’m excited to try making onigiri with it today.

We went out for Vietnamese lunch and tried lots of unique international snacks today. Now Korean delivered for dinner. My daughter picked all the food choices today. Love her adventurous spirit! Dinner: Chicken Gangjung, Jjajangmyeon, Jap Chae (sweet potato noodles, first time trying, so chewy and savory), Bibimbap, Dakgalbi, Miso Soup. Loved all the little side dishes (반찬) like kimchi, pickled radish, and veggies; my daughter told me what they were called. She knew that little bit of info I didn’t.
Lunch at our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Got the usual: pho with extra tofu and bok choy. Enjoyed it with a charcoal cream foam tea. My daughter had a butterfly limeade.

Kimchi for breakfast anyone? My daughter and I made our first batch and the flavors are already amazing! We’ll taste it daily to see how fermentation changes everything. I even got her a huge exotic snack mystery box. It’ll be fun to go through. Got her mango Jin Shan Jiao cakes, multiple flavors of Silky Gem crystals, green tea & cheesecake Pocky, lots of unique ramen and more. I’m so excited to give it to her when I get home! 🎉🍭

Today I’m testing X’s new auto closed captions by talking into a video while biting into a Japanese pickled plum (umeboshi) for the first time! Oh my goodness — you guys said it was salty, but I wasn’t expecting that salty! I had no idea the seed was still inside. I don’t know why I assumed it was removed — bit right in and was surprised to hit it. Does closed captions work for you? Do they auto-translate into your language? I think if we get auto captions auto translate, there’s no stopping the exchange of information.
