If they cannot even fly the Pride flag, we should all be worried about how they support 2SLGBTQIA students & families in general especially those subjected to harassment and violence. As someone who was gay bashed at my Catholic high school, this choice by the board is disturbing

I’m disappointed seeing the convos of theatre-makers in Canada who hold firm to an idea that there is one way to experience theatre, and it needs to be "polite" and “respectful". These words are often coded with elitism, as are many instances in this article. Three antecdotes:

I listened, and then told them I’m watching to ensure everyone is safe, but I will not ask for a change in behaviour from the child. The risk of shaming the child and the mother out of ever enjoying theatre was not worth a few audience members being mildly distracted.
So, to close: think about the people who have always felt welcome at the theatre. The people who have learned the "etiquette". Maybe not every theatre space needs to serve them.
