New @ecoNEWS_VT article about our Vermont study on agricultural tarping!
Tarping has "many ecological and socio-economic benefits for farms" ... but "unknown long-term effects on soil biodiversity."

Brilliant demonstration of how soil organisms decompose, fertilize & recycle
No soil #biodiversity and …the system stops (and so soil health by the way!)

So excited to share what I’ve been researching in my postdoc tomorrow at #AGU22! My presentation is titled “Historical Changes to Snowmelt for Irrigation 1985-2020” ❄️
Sad to be missing #AGU22 this year, but our #ASCILab group is there in force!
Tomorrow, @EvaKinnebrew presents an analysis of how changes to snowmelt runoff are impacting global water resources for irrigation: agu.confex.com/agu/fm22/meet…
Interested in agroecology, participatory action research, mixed methods, and the impacts of plasticulture? Check out our new paper on agricultural tarping (it's open access, too!): tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.… [1/4]

One fun aspect of this study was presenting our field results to farmers and interviewing them on their responses. Many, but not all, of our findings matched farmers' expectations (which gives us a lot to think about) [3/4]

There's a lot of special things about this study -- it was my last dissertation chapter and it integrated the interests and knowledge of local farmers, which made it feel really meaningful. Shout out as well to all my amazing Vermont collaborators! 💕 [4/4]
Our SACNAS Chapter at UVM was well represented during the 2022 @sacnas National Diversity in STEM Conference, held in Puerto Rico. Many thanks to the members that represented our chapter with their inspiring work.

really cool grant opp and rare opp for grad students or postdocs to get $4000 to a community group they work with check it out due Sept 9 researchamerica.org/civic-en…
Hey @NACCB2022, interested in how agricultural tarping impacts arthropod communities? Tune into the Human Impacts & Disturbance Ecology II session tomorrow at 4:00pm (PT) to find out!
[1/7] 🚨New paper alert🚨 We compared the performance of two remote sensing products in detecting deforestation in Amazon protected areas. The big takeaway: maps have distinct biases and limitations. Read at @PLOSONE (doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone…) 🧵
[6/7] In the end, it was clear that GFC overestimates deforestation in our study areas while our maps underestimates it. Map users should keep this in mind. We hope this study increases transparency about these maps and raises awareness that ALL maps have biases and limitations
[7/7] A huge thanks to co-authors @kjohannetsiegel, @MillsNovoa, @pp8aecu, Matthew French & Elizabeth Shoffner, and @SESYNC graduate pursuits for bringing us together. Our maps are publicly available and can be downloaded at doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.…
