I think one of the reasons David Lynch will be so missed is he had this uncanny ability to capture the cadence of a nightmare and replicate it. I can't think of a single artist who does it as well as he did.

Situational things can exacerbate mental illnesses but that doesn't mean the mental illness doesn't exist. This is like saying "you don't really have a broken leg, you're just in pain because your house is on fire." The house fire and the broken leg can both exist!
