🌱Do leaves and roots follow the same strategy? New research led by @ZhuYuzhi5778 in @Ecology_Letters shows that leaf and fine root traits in subtropical forest plants are largely decoupled, with independent above- and below-ground resource strategies. 👇 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…

Annual science meeting of @schmidtsciences @Lemontree_UofR project hosted in @SeoulNatlUni @snucals1 was filled with curiosity and fun! The program included one day of open seminars, two days of science meetings, and two days dedicated to the Early Career Researcher (ECR) summer school. The open seminar welcomed nearly 100 participants and featured presentations covering a wide range of topics on Eco-Evolutionary Optimality principles. The talks sparked many engaging questions and discussions. The science meeting highlighted updates from various working groups. It was a valuable opportunity for all of us to see the overall progress of the project, which led many discussions. The ECR summer school combined lectures on theory with hands-on training in LiDAR and hyperspectral remote sensing. We enjoyed a series of social activities too! 🍺 🐟 🥩 @SandyHarrisonRe Colin Prentice Heather Graven Xu Liang @PierreGentine @trevorkeenan Karin Rebel Hugo Jan de Boer @StockerBeni @nick_greg_smith @WangHanSci Pier Luigi Vidale Anna Agusti-Panareda Martin Best Sophia Cain Natalie Sanders Sarah Jones

Check out this blog post summarizing main findings from our recent paper looking at leaf and whole-plant responses to elevated CO2!
🌿 New blog post! How does nitrogen shape plant responses to rising CO₂? In short: leaf-level responses are driven by nitrogen demand, while whole-plant growth is constrained by nitrogen supply. Read more: 🔗 research.reading.ac.uk/lemon… @EvanPerkowski

In contrast, whole-plant responses to eCO2 were enhanced with increasing nitrogen fertilization, supporting the large body of work indicating that nitrogen limitation constrains plant responses to eCO2. Inoculation played no role in modifying whole-plant responses to eCO2 (4/5)

This work helps resolve the longstanding question as to whether nitrogen supply or demand drives plant responses to eCO2, showing that nitrogen demand regulates leaf-level responses to eCO2, while nitrogen supply constrains whole-plant responses. Please do check it out! (5/5)
