Why the Coach is still the Cleanest Seat in Sussex 🚌🌍
The math of shared travel is hard to argue with.
We’ve all seen it—the morning crawl on the A27 or the sea of brake lights heading up the M23. Usually, that congestion is made up of dozens of cars with just one person inside each of them.
At Event Travel Hub, we don't just see a traffic jam; we see a massive opportunity to improve our local air quality.
When we look at the hard data for the travel industry, the numbers for coach travel are staggering compared to the private car. It’s why our team is so vocal about "shared mobility" as the primary solution for 2026.
The Carbon Gap A typical petrol or diesel car on our roads emits around 170g of CO2 for every kilometre. Even for those who have made the move to an Electric Vehicle (EV), the current UK energy mix means those journeys still account for roughly 50g of CO2 per kilometre.
By comparison, a fully-loaded coach averages out at just 27g per passenger. Essentially, traveling with us is twice as green as driving an EV and six times better for the environment than a standard petrol car.
The Power of Scale We see these benefits at every level of our business. On our daily excursions, like a trip to the Kew Gardens Orchid Festival, just one coach removes up to 50 individual cars from our local roads.
However, the real impact shows when we handle the massive logistics for Seagull Travel. For a major event like a
#bhafc Wembley final, we have previously moved a fleet of 84 coaches in a single day, which effectively replaced a convoy of over 4,000 cars that would have otherwise created a bumper-to-bumper traffic jam stretching for 20 kilometres.
The "Cold Start" Factor There’s also the impact we don't always see. When thousands of people start their engines on a cold morning, those cars are at their most polluting. By consolidating that into high-efficiency, pre-warmed coach engines, we significantly lower the pollutants dumped into our local Sussex air.
Our Commitment: Sustainability shouldn't be a sacrifice. We want to keep Sussex moving, keep our local air clean, and prove that you can have a great day out while making a responsible choice.
Whether you're heading to a London museum or hopefully a cup final, you’re helping us take thousands of vehicles off the road. It’s a simple choice, but the math proves it’s the right one for our community.
