My great friend Normandy Veteran Ken Cooke (100) laying Poppy wreaths at the Service of Remembrance, York City Memorial Gardens and York Station this morning.Many people stopped to shake Ken’s hand and thank him for his service which continues to this day.

VE Day 80
What a special week this has been in the company of a wonderful gentleman. A poignant reminder of why we must continue to remember and keep the stories alive for future generations.
Ken Cooke, Green Howards was able to return to Crepon to see his Regiment’s memorial and the names of those who did not return. After a pause of reflection and silence we then went to the Green Howards Pub where he was welcomed and thanked with open arms by the local residents.
