In case anyone was still unsure about what my #dnd is: To me, 1e AD&D is Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Not perfect, copied here and there in dabs and in other places swaths. But nothing has brought it all together like AD&D. Other editions are too "clean" for me. AD&D is the edition that mentions drugs, torture parlors in Drow cities, blood magic, has the naked chicks in the books, the demons on the cover, the blood dripping off of swords. It's the one written in High Gygaxian, the one that dares you to take a bite of the Apple and see eternity! AD&D has The Tomb of Horrors (the first and best, baby: no "save or take damage!" here - your characters will fucking die if they mess up!), Against the Giants, White Plume Mountain. It's the D&D of Greyhawk, of assassins' guilds, thieves (not rogues) and half-orcs (because, man, Gary told us orcs are fecund and sent us for the Webster's to find out what fecund meant). It's where the Black Magic is, and always will be, forevermore.
