The garden is wearing orange today. That’s what’s bringing the bees its way. Tomatoes dangle overhead, while late spring paints the flower bed. 🧡🏵️✴️

Against all odds, I may actually get a pineapple this year. 🍍 How do I know when it’s ready to harvest? 😄 it’s only 6” from bottom to top. Tiny.

Ode to Blossom A timid cow with patches bare, Never knowing life could be fair. 🐄 Now she struts and takes a bow; The sun found Blossom, and she’s blooming now. 🌸☀️
Sometimes I wonder if Blossom ever thinks about her life. I bought her from a small dairy but she still spent a lot of time tied in a stanchion or standing in an exercise lot. She was clearly at the bottom of the pecking order in the herd, she was skittish and timid and had big bald patches, from stress maybe. Suddenly at the ripe old age of 12 she got moved here and now she roams over acres, sleeps, is boss cow, and plays grandma cow to the baby calf. It's never too late for your life to take a sudden sunny turn.

A blank slate. Summer is tough for 9B growing. What to plant… what to plant? 🤔

Dwarf Agave lophantha 'Marginata' is one of the most prolific offset-producing agaves. This one was hiding in the weeds because, quite frankly, I was avoiding it. 😅 The spines are ridiculously sharp, there are always ants nearby, and every weeding session feels like a questionable life choice. Today I finally cleaned it up and found she has at least ten pups. 😍

One more reason to plant Florida natives: Painted Buntings, often called the most beautiful bird in North America, are attracted to gardens that provide food, water, and dense native cover. Think native grasses, shrubs, small trees, and a little less tidiness. The more habitat we create, the more wildlife shows up. Nature has been waiting for an invitation.

Gentle reminder, Florida growers: If you haven’t mulched, it’s about that time. Water disappears fast from the soil surface this time of year, especially with many of us still experiencing severe drought conditions. A few inches of mulch can help keep precious moisture where your plants need it most. 🌱💧

Just in time for my potato harvest! 👍🏻 thank you @WeldrSkeltr
🍠 “My 87-year-old neighbor just dropped potato wisdom that saved me $200 this year…” She pulled out a plain cardboard box, sprinkled a handful of baking soda like it was gold dust, and whispered, “This is how we kept potatoes through the whole winter back home — no fridge, no chemicals, no sprouting.” I thought she was joking… until I tried it. Old-world potato preservation hack: 1. Place your potatoes in a cardboard box (breathable = key) 2. Generously dust them with baking soda 3. Tuck the box away in a cool, dark place (closet, pantry, under the bed) 4. Watch them stay firm and sprout-free for months No more mushy potatoes. No more throwing away half the bag. Just simple, forgotten knowledge from a generation that didn’t waste a single thing. Who else is bringing back grandma’s tricks in 2026? Drop a 🥔 if you’re trying this! Save this before your next grocery run. Your wallet (and your potatoes) will thank you. ❤️

I admire @MarthaStewart a great deal. Her Turkey Hill home inspired the first “dream property” I ever tried to create for myself: a small ranch in the California mountains. The environment was completely different from Connecticut, but the goal was the same: grow food, create a beautiful property, and build something worth passing down to future generations. The process of developing that ranch became one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I’m doing it again now in Florida, and I’ll probably do it again somewhere else in a few years. As someone who grew up in a small town and not in a wealthy family, I never imagined this kind of life was possible. Her example showed me that it was. So thankful 🙏🏻
Everyone always asks what I do with all the vegetables I grow. I share them with my family, but I also love sharing the bounties with friends, colleagues, and my hardworking crew here at the farm. I also provide fruits, vegetables, and eggs for photography and video shoots. And, of course, all my birds get vegetables too. See what’s growing now on today’s themarthablog.com.

Agave trimming before work today. I have concluded that agaves are nature’s way of asking, “How badly do you want this landscaping to look nice?” Every time I trim them, I get stabbed at least once.😖 Today I dug out 8 pups; 4 survived the operation and will be potted up for friends and neighbors. The little pups are clones of the mother plant. With a little patience, each one can grow into an architectural focal point. If you receive an agave from me, know it was acquired with blood, sweat, and occasionally profanity.

My family had a '79 Dodge Tradesman Van, similar to this Chevy. Fun fact: You can actually unlatch the center console and expose the engine. I learned a lot about cars with that feature. At any point, my dad could be driving down the road, unhook the console and adjust the carburetor, check the timing or even add oil. Good times. 🤩👍🏻

I caught the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch this morning. Someone tell me what that secondary light is on the bottom of the plume. Was that a booster separating from the rocket or something else? 🚀@SpaceX
