Happy Birthday to the late William Skelly, out of Erie, Pennsylvania; Skelly Oil Company left a massive legacy that helped turn Tulsa, Oklahoma, into the “Oil Capital of the World.” Founded in Tulsa in 1919 by William Grove “Bill” Skelly, the company grew into a multi-million dollar empire. It built pipelines,operated refineries, and ran hundreds of gas stations across the midwestern United States. While J. Paul Getty took control of the company during the Great Depression, Bill Skelly stayed on as the public face and president until his death in 1957. Today, locals still refer to Bill Skelly as “Mr. Tulsa” because his oil money built so much of the city’s modern identity; 6-10-1878 to 4-11-1957….

Our OKC Spark opened their season tonight with a 13-5 home victory over the Texas Volts! Maya Brady powered the win with a second inning grand slam. Thanks to Dr. Tina Floyd (pictured) for her continued leadership of the Spark, who are starting their first season in the AUSL, a professional softball league supported by the MLB and televised on ESPN and other broadcast partners (tonight’s game was on ESPN).
