Despite directing #IndianaJones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, #StevenSpielberg was not on board with its big science fiction twist according to George Lucas:
"I said, 'Steven, this is perfect because it’s the 1950s, when flying saucers were a whole thing,' but he said 'no.' We did about five scripts, and finally Steve and I compromised: 'Look, what if they’re not aliens but from another dimension.'"

Remember this when people talk about its awards prospects and argue that the "older" members won't like it. The Academy rarely ignores a phenomenon, especially lately as it has become more open to genre films. I can see at least screenplay and actress as real possibilities.

DISCLOSURE DAY is pulling from a kind of naive, well-meaning but deeply silly science fiction storytelling that hasn't been relevant in at least 40 years. I can't really say I'm too shocked that a bunch of young people are looking at this and going "what is this."

It's telling that the element of Disclosure Day that people are having the most trouble believing isn't the sci-fi , but the idea of humanity experiencing a shared moment of empathy. Which makes me think that must be the point Spielberg is going for - it's a plea for togetherness
