Stanley Pophal, 64, Wausau, Wisconsin, pleaded guilty Friday to defrauding investors out of $14.25 million in the Western District of Wisconsin. According to court documents, Pophal defrauded 190 investors and used the funds to purchase hundreds of snowmobiles, motorcycles, and vehicles. As part of his plea agreement with the government, Pophal agreed to forfeit these items. Public auction of these assets will occur at a later date. The FBI's Milwaukee Area Violent Crime Task Force (MAVCTF), Milwaukee Area Safe Streets Task Force (MASSTF), and Milwaukee Police Department's District 1 participated in enforcement operations with a focus Tuesday night in downtown Milwaukee on Brady Street. During the operation, multiple firearms were seized from a vehicle along with narcotics. This enforcement is part of Operation Summer Heat 2.0, the #FBI's multi-pronged offensive to crush violent crime. Working with our local, state and federal partners the FBI seeks to aggressively restore safety in communities across the country. MASSTF members include: the Milwaukee Police Department, the Mount Pleasant Police Department, the Caledonia Police Department, the Cudahy Police Department, the Racine County Sheriff's Office, the Racine Police Department, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol. This week the FBI announced Operation Riptide, an ongoing campaign targeting criminals, infrastructure, and the financial networks behind cyber-enabled crime and fraud against the American people. In recent weeks, the #FBI has carried out enforcement actions against cyber threat actors, serving search warrants, securing indictments, arresting suspects, and dismantling criminal infrastructure. Operation Riptide is a 60-day national effort across all 56 FBI field offices. Last year, Americans filed more than one million complaints with the FBI, reporting over $20 billion in losses to cybercrime and online fraud, a 26 percent increase in losses in a single year. Christopher L. Rentmeester, 45, of Plymouth, Wisconsin was federally indicted on two counts for the production of child pornography by a grand jury this week in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. According to the indictment, the criminal conduct is alleged to have occurred between 2022 and 2024. Rentmeester faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years’ imprisonment and up to 30 years’ imprisonment, on each count if convicted. FBI Milwaukee Special Agent in Charge Alan Karr spoke at a press conference this afternoon with Madison Police Chief John Patterson announcing the extradition of fugitive Jose De Jesus Duenas-Quinonez from Mexico to Madison. The 40-year-old man has been charged with first degree intentional homicide in the stabbing death of his wife in 2023 after fleeing to Mexico with their young child. He made his initial appearance in Dane County Court today. The FBI worked with Legat Mexico and Mexican authorities to arrest Duenas-Quinonez in January and he was brought back to the United States in late May by FBI special agents. A man and woman were recently sentenced after convictions for child neglect on the Menominee Indian Reservation in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. Louis Tucker, 24, of Neopit, Wisconsin, was sentenced to three years in federal prison for child neglect. Nyomi L.D. Acosta, 21, of Neopit, was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for the same offense. Both will spend three years on supervised release following their imprisonment. According to court records, a then 8-month-old child suffered a burn, broken bones, and bruising to the head and body while under the care of Tucker and Acosta. They did not seek medical attention for the child after the child was abused. FBI Milwaukee's Green Bay Resident Agency and the Menominee Tribal Police investigated this case. The FBI's Milwaukee Area Safe Streets Task Force (MASSTF) worked with the Milwaukee Police Department's (MPD) District 2 Violent Crime Reduction Team, MPD District 4, MPD District 6, and MPD Criminal Investigative Division in the arrest of a suspected Latin Kings gang member following a traffic stop which was followed by multiple residential search warrants. Items seized from the residences included cocaine, fentanyl, a Glock firearm, body armor, and other illegal drugs. Jeremiah Tyler, 22, of Milwaukee, was sentenced to 16½ years in federal prison yesterday for committing nine robberies in the Milwaukee area in the Eastern District of Wisconsin. According to court records, between July 18, 2025, and August 18, 2025, Tyler brandished a weapon while committing six of the nine robberies in Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties. This case was investigated by the FBI’s Milwaukee Area Violent Crime Task Force which consists of the Milwaukee Police Department, the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, the Wauwatosa Police Department, the Mequon Police Department, the West Allis Police Department, the Oak Creek Police Department and the Germantown Police Department, with assistance provided by the Menomonee Falls Police Department.
