8/ Falkland Islanders were very keen to support the allied efforts and donated over £50,000 (almost £3 million today) for the purchase of 10 spitfires for the Royal Air Force.
You can see one of the Falklands purchased spitfires in the photograph below.

7/ The people of the Falkland Islands proudly served and supported the Allies during the Second World War.
From a population of just 2,300, more than 150 Falkland Islanders volunteered for service in the War, however 24 Islanders were killed in the fighting.

Unfortunately, we have little more information on Robert's service other than the small note below provided to the Falkland Islands Weekly News in late 1944. 🇫🇰
