I heard we were talking Canada Hip-Hop today, is that right?

Sayzee has been making waves and establishing himself for a while now, but recently he’s really been grabbing my attention. Between his I HATE MONDAYS series which included White On White Crime with AYOO BIGZ, and multiple early year features like Ocean Smock with Daniel Son & Futurewave, he’s been cooking. And Flu went crazy on the production with Sayzees Smoke Wave partner Jamal Gasol last year when they dropped Its In The Eyes. So needless to say I was excited to see this pair drop Blood On The Moon!
House Fires is the first song and a great intro to this quick project. The beat from Flu is calm but has an edge, while Sayzee talks about trust and how he won’t get his flows and respect till he’s gone. Not on this platform! Sayzee spits “I start the year heavy drop a verbal intercourse”, just like I was saying he did. It also has some of my favorites bars on the whole album, “it feel good to pay for accolades you probably paid for”. Y’all already know that’s not how I get down and when I give high praise, I’ll back it up out of love for the music. Hit List has Sayzee popping his shit over a much darker beat and lets us know last year he wrote the list, and this year he checking it off.
Do Better brings the only feature from fellow Canadian Asun Eastwood, both go back and forth about life’s obstacles and overcoming them. “Had my first baby ain’t no losing or no maybes” Asun spits like a dagger on the track. Dusty Pellets brings a western vibe to the vicious campfire stories that Sayzee brings. Letting off bars like bullets left and right. last but not least is Act Grown, a track where Sayzee calls out peoples bullshit and recognizes that some people will just never act their age, looking like clowns in the process.
This was an amazing project from Sayzee. I’m not sure if he’s stepping things up more or if my ears are just unlocking in a new way but either way it makes me want to dig back and check more out. One of Canadas best and one of the brightest shining gems in the underground, tune in to him and Blood On The Moon today if you haven’t!
