Informative thread about heathland deterioration and butterflies
Dutch heathland butterflies are dying. Where I remember that August was a great month to go there, now they are often a purple colored emptiness. What happened? 1/16

Sewage caught on video pouring into sea on beach in #Cornwall where people 'swam in poo'. @TheGreenParty wants the water companies back in public ownership so they're run for the common good, not private profit. #StopTheSewage #MakePollutersPay itv.com/news/westcountry/202…

Leafcutter bee (Megachile versicolor) bringing a piece of leaf back to her nest. Using oval-shaped pieces to line the tube, she provisions each cell with pollen, lays an egg, & blocks the cells with round-shaped pieces, which amazingly she cuts to the exact diameter of the tube!

When kids are deprived of play, their mental health suffers. Over the past 50 years, the time kids spend playing outside and inside has plummeted. They're missing opportunities to bond, build self-control, be creative, and feel joy. Free play is a key to happiness and growth.

The Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina) - far from boring! 🦋 Hundreds may be seen together flying low over vegetation. They will fly even in dull weather when most other butterflies are hunkering down. One to record in the #BigButterflyCount 👉 bigbutterflycount.org
