PhD Félix Machín (@MachinPhd) Laboratory Official X Account. We do science with yeast and more, especially interested in chromosome stability and cell cycle.
Exciting news from our lab! We’ve preprinted that the yeast protein Msc1, known for DNA repair, shifts to nucleus-vacuole junctions (NVJs) during the diauxic shift and prevents toxic NPC aggregation as cells prepare for quiescence.

Cohesin’s kleisin subunit is back in late mitosis after DNA double-strand breaks, and…
A continuation from our previous paper on iScience, we now show that Msc1 maintains nuclear envelope and nuclear pore complex integrity for DNA repair. Msc1 synergistically works with the ESCRT-III complex for this purpose, underscoring NE homeostasis as key to genome stability.
Closed mitosis is a form of cell division used by pathogenic fungi and protists. In this process, chromosomes are segregated without dismantling the nuclear envelope (NE). But what happens when they undergo mitosis with an excess of NE? Find out here! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…
I am looking for candidates to apply for a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral fellowship to work on the link between the nuclear envelope and genome instability. Rush, there is only one week left but I’ve got my part ready!
I am pleased to share our latest work as a result of collaborating with chemists to delve into SAR and MOA of drug candidates. This time with the small local biopharma company #CEAMEDcell.com/heliyon/fulltext/S2…
Job alert!
After posting our recent discovery of Msc1 as a protein involved in DNA double-strand break repair in late mitosis, we now post a preprint on how Msc1 might work together with the ESCRT-III complex for this goal: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
Glad to share our latest paper!

We are pleased to share with you our latest pre-print on the discovery of Msc1 as a late mitotic DNA repair factor in yeast.
